Re: Akai AX73 | VX90 Patches (Factory or Otherwise)

I did some troubleshooting by sending my presets via Tape Out, which worked fine. I then loaded them back via Tape In and it was successful, so I know my VX90 is sending and receiving the tape dump properly. I did notice that two of the four files you posted were stereo and the other two mono. I do...

They've been up on http://dbwbp.com/index.php/9-misc/37-synth-eprom-dumps for quite a while now, but your effort is appreciated none-the-less.

Re: Korg Electribe ES-1 Smart Media Card

https://www.sweetwater.com/sweetcare/articles/korg-electribe-es1-128mb-smartmedia-card-what-largest-smartmedia/ They say 64MB max as do some other posts on the Korg forums, etc. The Korg manual for the ES-1 also specifically states 3/3.3v SmartMedia of 4MB to 64MB. It should be noted that this appli...

Re: Korg Electribe ES-1 Smart Media Card

No, it's not required as there is internal flash memory. A card is the only way to transfer back-and-forth with a computer though, plus without the card then you have to be very selective in what you sample into it as you can't really load a "best of" unless it's from a card. 64MB is the largest car...

Re: Synth Storage?

From a physics perspective, at least, I'd say that keeping the longest dimension vertical is the best. What I mean is that if you have a long synth on a keyboard stand (no support in the middle) then it will tend to sag just like a cheap shelf, whereas is you stand it up on end then the width (longe...

Re: Ensoniq ESQ-1 local keyboard.

Correct--those buttons are not responding. I don't think the REC button is responding, either. If so, but Soft Button #9 and Edit both work then the issue should just be mechanical. If Internal, Write, Soft Button #9, Record, Play, and LFO2 don't work as a group then you've got one more dead line/p...

Re: Ensoniq ESQ-1 local keyboard.

If there are any service docs, TheSoniq probably has them. Has them, yes. Willing to share them, I don't believe so. I've even heard rumors that The illogically denies that schematics even exist. But they assuredly do exist and were partially (unsurprisingly) authored by Bob Yannes himself. I think...

Re: Ensoniq ESQ-1 local keyboard.

I'll try the self-test mode tonight. However, another issue is that soft button 4 (on the top bank?) and the bank 4 select button are also not responding. But maybe they will respond in some fashion in self test mode? Won't know till I try. You should have six buttons that do not respond: Bank 4, S...

Re: Ensoniq ESQ-1 local keyboard.

This ESQ has a metal chassis but I don't know if it was earlier or later. The PCBs say 1986, but I don't know if later ones would say that, too. One clue is that the OS EPROMs are underneath the keybed; again I don't know if this means earlier version or not. However, the service manual says that k...

Re: Ensoniq SD1 (SD-1) Sequencer OS Floppy Disk Image

BTW: I use Giebler's EDM all the time for ensoniq disk stuff. It's not so much that Giebler utilities are "bad", they just aren't particularly compatible with all the systems and setups that they could be. Omniflop can be used with all sorts of floppy disc controller chips, Pentium 4 CPUs, XP, etc....

Re: Yamaha CS5 Trigger mod

I'm not all that familiar with the Yamaha CS5, so I could be off-base here, but it probably is a switched mono style jack, so instead of just the traditional sleeve and tip connections, there would be an additional connector. When there's no plug inserted into such a jack, the extra contact is physi...

Re: Juno 106 problem

Thanks for the link. You're welcome. If you stay "downstream" from the regulators then you'll be more-or-less safe. Probing or touching around the power cord connection, main fuse, and the transformer is not suggested. Also, you'll see a couple of large electrolytic capacitors and large diodes (for...

Re: Juno 106 problem

Thanks, I appreciate you getting back to me but I would need more info than this. I don't know enough about electronics to know what the power supply voltages should be or how to test them. I replaced a voice chip last year, and that is about the limit of my abilities. I was hoping that someone cou...
