Re: ElectroComp EML-101 volt/octave conversion mod

The EML uses non-standard CV scaling, 1.2 V/octave. Of course, any modern MIDI-to-CV converters won't scale up properly. So I am not sure why you did this modification on the EML-101. I think your first statement answers your own line of questioning. Seems pretty apparent why someone would mod that.

Re: Casio RZ-1 Custom Firmware

The buzz is a common problem. It's the inverter for the backlight (which probably doesn't even still work anyway!)

Here's how to upgrade to an LED LCD display, effectively killing two birds with one stone:

Re: DIY repairs and grounding.

Well, if you think about it, ground isn't any one specific thing. Different grounds can have different potential, even between two literal "ground" points--as in physical earth proper--so electrical ground is really just the point of zero potential in any given system (typically and practically it i...

Re: Think my beloved 707 has just died...

Funny, there's one on eBay currently with that exact issue. I don't have time at the moment to do any advanced or conclusive sleuthing on the matter, but I'd venture a guess that if you take a magnifying glass to the area in or around IC40 (multiplexer), IC37 (D/A converter), and IC41 (demultiplexer...

Re: Kurzweil K2500 operating system bugs?

In the meantime I've received those updated chips - I managed to install 340CTLV9 but those PLCCs are so damn hard to remove even with a chip puller that I didn't manage to install the SMCTLV8 yet. I don't want to damage the synth so I have to think of a clever solution for swapping out the chip. D...

Re: Any Ensoniq MR experts?

Firmware v1.53 for the Ensoniq MR Rack is now up on the SkinnyV archive @:

The filename is "Ensoniq_MR_RACK_1.53.zip" should anyone be still in search of it.

Re: Akai AX-60 Custom Firmware (Akai AX60)

Would this mod also apply to the VX90? Not directly, but it could make it easier as that whole series is related. But each firmware is unique which means (at the very least) it has to be disassembled separately. I don't have access to the VX90 firmware so I can't say anything too specific about how...

Re: Service Manuals and Schematics!

Anyone got the Kurzweil K2500 service manual? It's on Scribd but I don't see why I should be paying for downloading a document that doesn't even belong to them. Amen, JoJo. Fly free vintage audio information! Here it is, complete with schematics: https://mega.nz/#!Gc0DFahB!YbsSNzbEi9tV1_moXtw9n-Khc...

Re: Yamaha tx16w

Yeah, madtheory is super horny about the TX16W :) so you should talk to him. The memory issue is a bit tricky, but the USB drive is quite easy. I'd suggest an HxC flashed Gotek. That's how I upgraded my TX16W and it works quite well. I also have a hardcopy of the TX16W service manual if anyone needs...

Re: HELP! Nine Inch Nails Synth sounds

Early NIN was heavy on the Oberheim Xpander, Prophet VS, and (very heavily) Emax samples. A little bit later the Nord Lead was also a go to. There are plenty of threads on t3h Interwebs that will tell you more in detail.

Re: ESI-32 MIDI Sample Dump Problem OS 3.02

I have an ESI-4000 v3.02 (basically the same as the ESI-32) and SampleWrench doesn't work with it for MIDI SDS here either. So I think E-mu just did a poor job with their implementation. In my case, I select the sample to receive the dump, hit Enter, it's waiting for transfer, I hit send in SampleWr...

The flash tool is proprietary and only exists for Windows, so far as I know.

Casio RZ-1 Custom Firmware

I've been (very casually) mulling over the idea of making custom firmware for the RZ-1. I am now quite dedicated to RZ-1 hacks and have more-or-less finished custom firmware and have implemented the following features: ACCENT LOCK Accent lock makes all drum hits have extra emphasis by default. On a...
