Re: CS1X MIDI in/out not working

According to MIDI Ox, and the dimmed signal light on the MIDI cable, no MIDI signal is coming out of the CS1X. It could be a settings issue - wrong channel or something. At the same time I think it should work with the default settings after a factory reset. Really hoping there's no hardware issue ...

Re: CS1X MIDI in/out not working

But also it turns out you can send actual sounds from PC through MIDI which is odd based on my limited understanding of the "MIDI" concept  I thought it only sends signals and not sounds, but that's a different issue :D MIDI can do a few things. Mostly music notes (pitch), velocity, volume, ...

Re: CS1X MIDI in/out not working

I should probably get a couple of midi to midi cables though since the idea was to get a cheapish sequencer to go with CS1X at a later stage. Ah. I see how you're stuck. If you're going to post on a forum called Vintage Synth Explorer then it's an unspoken requirement to have some spare MIDI cables...

Re: CS1X MIDI in/out not working

Since you obviously have another MIDI keyboard, I'd connect that keyboard to the CS1X and see if it plays nicely that way. I'm suggesting that to rule out some problem with the computer's MIDI setup. If nothing is working that way, regardless of MIDI channel settings, etc. then at least you'll know ...

Re: troubles with P600 teensy modification

No real need to cut down one of the few people actually supplying the time, effort, and expertise to make custom firmware for vintage (read: abandoned) synths when the reality is: Why should anyone design their work around being compatible with some shitty and second-rate Chinese knockoff? That's ab...

Re: EDIT* thoughts on AKAI 60

Once somebody upgrades the OS/Firmware for CC control of parameters and a few other bells and whistles this thing will have a new life like the P600 and JX3P are enjoying... in the meantime, scoop them up for under $700 when you can. There are only 72 spare bytes or so in the original firmware to a...

Re: Kurzweil K2000 versions

It's my understanding that people have been successful with installing an HxC into their Kurzweil K2000 samplers. But even beyond that, I believe the K2000 is so standard that they will work not only work with an HxC reflashed Gotek, but even with a plain stock (read: cheap) Gotek 1.44MB model.

Re: Yamaha AN1x firmware update seeking

just found this thread, would like to check if anyone can offer me a service to burn a v1.04 firmware EPROM chip for the AN1x? I'd PM jxalex for such things. I'm pretty sure he's willing to cheaply burn and post just about anywhere, provided he has the EPROM (which in this case, I believe he does)....

Re: Ensoniq VFX SD mainboard troubleshooting

So i have a faulty power supply and a faulty mainboard. Going to search for the -12 ANALOG fault on the power supply then i will investigate for the faulty VRES and -12V ANALOG on the mainboard. Don't be so sure that you have a faulty mainboard just because the PSU measures differently when under l...

Re: Mirage boot disk image needed (resolved)

Wow nice, I have a working Mirage still, it's the 2nd one that is messed up. The problem with it is that it outputs volume but it's SUUUUUPER quiet. Gordon gave me some leads on what might be faulty. where can i get this?! really awesome. I don't have a floppy drive, I have the emulator but I know ...

Re: Ensoniq EPS 16+ display corruption

Thanks for your advice. Much appreciated. I will find a tech. There's a local guy who previously fixed analog synths for me but he stayed away from digital. I will have to encourage him to change his ways. No problem. The digital is only a problem if the PSU tests out perfectly and it still doesn't...

Re: AX73 VCO Settings - Piano - Organ

You don't need any special cable. If you have an iPod, MP3 player, computer with a headphone jack, etc. then just connect a mini-stereo plug into the headphone / line-out jack of your device and use a mini-stereo to 1/4" adapter on the other end. Plug the 1/4" end into the AX73 cassette tape input j...

Re: Ensoniq EPS 16+ display corruption

It should be a 10k linear (sometimes called type 'B') slide potentiometer. Should be 60mm long with a 15mm shaft and 45mm travel. That's if you're looking to replace it. It's possible that the metal tabs which hold the wiper into the body of the slider have just been bent and the slider can be rebui...

Thank you for the effort. These are the posts that put a smile on my face :D

This seems quite in line with my own findings, so I think the data is good. Thanks again. If you stumble upon any more ideas or materials, please do contribute them. I'm all about these brain jam sessions.

Re: Ensoniq EPS 16+ display corruption

I'm guessing it needs a power supply rebuild. Could be a bad rectifier bridge or the filter caps. The fortunate thing (if I'm correct) about that is that any competent tech can fix the PSU. The other boards sometimes require hard-to-impossible to obtain parts (aside from a cannibalizing another mach...
