Re: tube amps
Thanks! I am doing better (saw the doctor again this morning and will see an ENT surgeon soon), though there have been some setbacks. Didn't think it was this serious, but they're all up in arms over it. Anyway ... Those are hard decisions to make! My only thing with Weber is get the lamp upgrade. S...

Re: Do Audio Demos Affect Your Purchases?
I'll say they have an impact on my decisions. When I first saw the MC-909, I didn't have a whole lot of time to spend with it and merely ran through the presets, which really, REALLY turned me off on the machine. I had nothing to do with it for years, even though I had read the specs and dug through...

Re: Hazardous asbestos in old synthesizers?
In all the instruments, amplifiers, mixing boards, etc. I've had open over the years, I've NEVER seen anything like asbestos in any of them. I think you're getting worked up over a whole lot of nothing, but if it makes you sleep better at night, you might want to attempt to contact some of the repai...

Re: tube amps
Thanks, guys - I am home now, but am on bed rest and massive oral antibiotics. Things seem to be getting better, though, so there you go. Glad I could help with the grounding question, Hyphen. I'll look forward to watching the progress on your amp-building! Do remember to take photos of every step a...

Re: tube amps
Guys - I'm in the hospital and kind of loopy. I should be going home tomorrow, so I'll attempt to answer questions then, OK, if my answers here don't make much sense. Sorry! The tubes I wanted you to switch, Synthecks, are the AT and the AX - different gain structure. I don't know that that will mak...

Re: tube amps
You know, it's kind of difficult to troubleshoot like this - it could be something super obvious were I to see and hear it in person. That's what's so frustrating here. If moving the tank doesn't do something for you, I'm going to suggest you take it in somewhere and have them look at it, OK? Lemme ...

Re: tube amps
Try this next: Swap the 3rd and 4th tubes (in your line) around.

Re: tube amps
I'm looking for a 12AT7 in the reverb driver. It's a less gain tube - possibly ease up on your noise situation. Do you have one of those by any chance?

P.S. - That interview is great! Quite telling were his complaints about breaking gear constantly, though, so I'm not surprised that they'd use said new stuff.

Re: tube amps
The tubes are going to get hot, no matter what. However, if they start to glow a cherry red color - you'll know it - then they're way too hot, so you should immediately turn the amp off and get it biased. Frankly, it would be worth the money to have that done now, if it were mine. Take the tank out,...

Re: tube amps
DON'T MESS WITH THE BIAS POT! Leave that to the pros for now, OK? As long as your tubes aren't glowing cherry red, just leave 'em alone. Did you turn the hum pot both ways and got nothing? I guess I would take the tank out and see what happens. That will tell us something, anyway. :) Scott

Re: cheap MC-09, talk me out of it
Eh - it's c**p. I'll give you 30 bucks for it. :D  Let us know your opinion of it once it's in your hands. I looked at buying one of these when they were being blown out, but didn't (didn't really need/want it, but wanted to fool around with it). If I were to find one that cheap now, I'd grab i...

Re: tube amps
Ha! Yeah, I remember those! Mind you, Synthecks, I'm kind of blah here, so I will try to be on target, OK? First off, due to the way the cabinet is built, you're kind of stuck. Even if you put the tank on the bottom of the cab, you'd still have the tank fairly close to the power tranny. However, wha...

Re: tube amps
Sorry 'bout that - I should have been more clear. The pan is the actual reverb tank - where is it located in conjunction to the output transformer? The output transformer (tranny) is the BIG box that hangs down on one end of the chassis, closest to where the power cable is. That's the baby that take...

Thanks, Stab! Coming from you that's high praise indeed (really and for true).
