Yeah, there could be something to it: your signal could be too close to the power supply, resulting in hum. As I said, move your cables and see what happens. Where is the pan located? Is it too near the power tranny? Check those things out.

Re: tube amps
Could be a whole number of things. Try swapping your tubes out, check your cables, etc. That's the simple stuff. From there we go on to checking resistors, etc. inside. Can't recommend that unless you know what you're doing in there, you know? Is it just humming or is it making other noises? Scott

Re: tube amps
The 7025 is more or less a better quality version of a 12AX7. That said, you'd be hard pressed to tell the difference with the tubes you'll find today. Time for flaming, but most people who swear they can tell the difference simply cannot. With NOS tubes, yes, sometimes you can tell the difference, ...

Re: tube amps
Ha! I had forgotten about that - you've already had your "taste," eh? Soon you'll be full-blown, craving 5881s in your output, and begging for Tungsols ... sweet, beautiful Tungsols ... uhuhuhuhuhuhuhuh ... drool ...

Re: tube amps
Good deal! Of course, now that you're fully on your way to being a tube junkie, I guess you'll soon be cursing me, too.

Re: tube amps
Depending on whom you talk to, some people will say wear gloves, etc. etc. My advice? Stick 'em in and don't bend the pins. Not much to it! Make sure you've got your AX7s in the right places and your AT7s in their place - that may make a small difference, but not much. Sounds like fun is on the way!...

Ha! That is very cool, Sci! How are you going to finish it?
Please make sure you add this to the projects stickie, so it doesn't disappear, OK?
Very nice work.

Re: tube amps
A couple of things: 1. You're going to be spreading that over two speakers, both of which are rated at 250 watts. Besides, that's peak watts - not program. It won't run at that level all the time. 2. You're not going to be running this full-on all the time, if you do EVER. Try it out and see what yo...

Re: tube amps
Sorry, Synthecks - I missed this thread. Wire your cabinet as detailed above; you only need one input, so leave the other one unsoldered. Let us know, OK? Noviello - you'll dig the Orange - they sound great. Gonna re-do the end of my personal amp this weekend and make it a 5-watt, single stage outpu...

Re: tube amps
To be honest, I didn't watch this video - I thought it was the same one I've seen before, so I didn't bother. If they do have the gain turned up on the one, though, Stab is right: you'd get a lot more noise. Also (and I want to be careful here - I am NOT badmouthing Mercury at all) I think their tra...

Re: tube amps
I'm a little groggy as I type this - been a long, sad night - so bear with me here, OK? Also why did the Mercury modded amp hum so loudly? You'd think by replacing the stock transformer with a quality one it'd actually reduce this. Maybe it was the way he was holding the guitar? Or some earthing/gro...

Re: tube amps
Well, the cab itself doesn't have a rating. The rating comes from the speakers and how they are wired. If you have two 8 ohm speakers and want to wire them to be 4 ohms, you'll connect the tip of the input to the plus (+) on both speakers and ring of the input to the minus (-) on both speakers. I ma...

Re: tube amps
Yep - those are great little amps! Get this, Rep - it's one of those they don't want us to repair (it's more cost-effective to just replace it), so we cut the cord off and send that in to Fender with the label from the back of it. Mind you, we've only had a couple come through, but still. They're qu...

Re: tube amps
Hmm ... there are a lot of questions there, Brian! So let me answer them in this order: 1. Give it LOTS of thought before attempting to build an amp. Lots 'n' lots of thought ... then do it! 2. I've built a couple of kits for guys, but mostly I build my own. The ones I've built and seen have all bee...
