The NGD tour was fantastic! Frankly, I can't tell you what he was using, but after they broke in America (with the album "Once Upon A Time" - an album I have to say I did not like the sound of), MacNeil was featured on the cover of Keyboard magazine, with a Obie of some sort - either the X or the X-...

I bought a Miracle a number of years ago to use as a controller. When I got it, I had no idea it was so sought after. This one did have the cable, too. I eventually sold it to a collector of Nintendo stuff. It worked great as a controller, though! Good size to set stuff on top. Not sure what the oth...

Hmmm ... me thinks a whole new round of 'net lore could be in the making ...

I pity the first guy to buy Tyler's transparent green 101 on Ebay!

Even though I could go for a few synths in the same blue casing as the Zoom 323 ...

Welcome to VSE and congrats on your purchase, Mr. Tuttle! Everytime I think I should buy a Micron, I end up passing on it. I think if it had knobs I'd like it more. I guess I should just get over it and go, but the one thing I really liked about the Ion was the layout and controls. That said, the Mi...

Yes, they would, but I'm just not crazy about Chinese Tubes. Yeah, yeah, yeah - I know ... I had posted a couple of places to check out before the crash the other night, but check this one: http://tubesandmore.com/ Get yourself a pair of JJ's or Winged C's and you'll be more than happy. Well, you're right in this instance, Tallow, as the EMX-1 does not have a "normal" amp (output) design. However, the tubes are doing something - pull 'em out and you should lose all output.

Yes, 12AX7s are generally used in musical applications as preamp tubes. Be aware, that just because it's a nine-pin tube, though, doesn't mean it's a 12AX7! Please see my post above. Nice link, Tallow. I hadn't read that one. I discussed this with a friend of mine last night. Afterward, he sent me t...

Yeah. This afternoon I spun through it and thought, "Ugh!" It just doesn't grab at first listen, that's for sure. I dunno - I'll have to listen to it again sometime, but I'm just not sure when I'm going to get around to it, you know?

Plate voltage in the EMX1 is about +15 volts and -15 volts on the cathode (30 volts max) with +6 volts on the heater. Mind you, there's only about 15 volts running through the whole damn machine anyway, soooo ... No, there's not a whole lot of gain coming from the tube. That said, the whole circuit ...

I bought my wife the new album and tix to see them in Chicago in December. She and her best friend are going - I'm staying home with the kids. Now that I hear about the "Kraftwerk" bit, though, I'm a bit disappointed I didn't get myself a ticket! I've yet to hear the new album. Maybe today. Woof! - ...

That's the band! They had a semi-hit with "Nowhere Girl."

I wonder I still have my copy of that album - I loved the Soft Cell song on there the best, "The Girl With the Patent Leather Face."

This is true, Meatball! I remember being able to buy all kinds of cool stuff - "limited" mind you - whenever something new came out. For example, the DX7 made a whole lot of people dump their big poly boards at the time, too. I got my MS20 'cause the guy who owned it could now get a synth that he co...

There were loads of pop-leaning bands that adapted post-punk attitudes towards composition and instrumentation, too. While they weren't considered in exactly in the same vein as, say The Bolshoi or Chameleons, they were pretty much along the same lines, but with different marketing. I'm thinking of ...

As a student, I got to spend plenty of time with a Buchla system with touch pads. Frankly, as one who got aquainted with synthesis through the "typical" keyboards of the time (late '70's/early '80's), it was, at first, very difficult to get my head around it. After I figured it out, it was very logi...

I remember the Proteus! A friend of mine built one while I built the Gnome. :(

How 'bout the OSCar? It was monophonic, had midi (version 2) and could store 36 patches. One of my all-time GAS items!

Plus it just plain looks cool.
