Thanks, Mike :) For those of you not familiar with "The Boogey Man"; it's an all-electronic score recorded (by Synthe-Sound-Trax) back in 1980 for the horror flick by the same name. http://www.endlessgroove.com/issue2/horror27.jpg The music reminds me a bit of John Carpenter's electronic scores from...

It would appear he used the SH-2000 for the squeeky little noises on "Praying to the Aliens" at least.

To the best of my knowledge, Gary Numan was only using a rented Minimoog* and a Roland SH-2000 on "Replicas" (music recorded in Dec '78 to Jan '79). I'm pretty sure the Minimoog is responsible for the main (bass) riff on "Are Friends Electric". Not sure what he used the SH-2000 for though. Regarding...

Hi folks, I just contacted John Wesley Barker (who played synths on "Metamatic" and "In the garden") to find out if they really used a Polymoog on "Metamatic"; the answer is NO. Here's an updated gear list that I received from Barker; Arp Odyssey w/arp sequencer (main synth) Roland CR-78 Elka Rhapso...

Big Soundtrack In Little China

Hi guys, Thought I'd write some lines about one of my favorite soundtracks by John Carpenter & Alan Howarth; namely 1986's Big Trouble In Little China. http://hem.bredband.net/b120613/alanhowarthstudio_late1985.jpg Alan Howarth photographed at his home studio, late 1985. Equipment used in the making...

It's indeed correct that the last revs of the black & gold mk II (model 2813 & 2815) featured the then-new 4075 filter. These models were produced from ca. mid 1976 to early 1978, when the Orange & black Odyssey mk III was introduced. The 4034* "Moog" ladder-filter used in the early version of the A...

Here's a good example of what a CS-50 is capable of when it comes to beefy bass sounds:

It sure is (most likely provided by the show)

When The Cure performed "The Walk" live in 1984 they used the JX-3P for the lead line. It didn't sound as good as on the studio version though.

How nice to see one of my favorite synthesists being discussed on VSE I love Wyman's Moog modular synth-work on John Carpenter's AOP13, Halloween and The Fog. All the synthesis for those scores were done on an extended moog modular IIIP comprising of 5-9 box units. I don't think Dan was part of SCI ...

didn't OMD use one as well? i think i have an ancient E&MM issue with an interview that said that. i always figured that was the very prominent synth on Enola Gay... I'm not aware of that they used a Wasp back in the day. The lead synth on "Enola Gay" is the Korg Micro-Preset. It's responsible for ...

I have no idea about how the Oxygene 5 noiseclick sequence was made, but besides that and the simple bassdrum probably just made with the 2600, it was pure MP7 on part 2, 4 and 6. Michel Geiss made the GEISS Rythmi-computer for JMJ as Micke also pointed out. I suppose that is the mentioned unit in ...
