Re: My (and Your) Favorite Minimoog Solos
Sky Blue . Passport, Ataraxia (1977). Willy Ketzer, keys. Mini solo @ 1:47: http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=iM7N3OTh-B8 Sounds like he added a little white noise into the patch. IMO, about as expressive as it gets. Hendrik Schaper played the Minimoog solo on "Sky Blue" but the other synth work was d...

Re: My (and Your) Favorite Minimoog Solos
I fully agree with you Shutoku, but don't forget that the Oberheim 4-voice is responsible for some of the synth solos on "Light of Smiles".
For example, the solos on "Water Sign" is the Obie.

Here's a photo of Geoff Downes posing in front of his 1983/84 keyboard rig: http://img801.imageshack.us/img801/6353/asiageoffdownes.jpg Note the addition of the Memorymoog on the left (ontop of the CS-80), PPG Wave 2.2 (underneath the Fairlight keyboards), Prophet remote keyboard and a Novatron (ins...

Re: Geoff Downes 1980s Keyboard rig
I believe the b&w picture above was taken during Asia's first tour back in 1982. For that tour Geoff Downes' keyboard rig included a Yamaha CS80, Prophet 5, Hammond J-122 organ, Yamaha CP-70B electric grand, two Moog Minimoogs, Fairlight master and slave keyboards, Polymoog, Mellotron, Prophet 10, S...

Re: The great thread of electronic/synthesizer soundtracks
I'm a big fan of Dan Wyman and I love his synth work on John Carpenter's '70s movies "Assault on Precinct 13", "Halloween" and "The Fog". I also very much like his own electronic/orchestral scores to "Without Warning" (1980) and "h**l Night" (1981), none of which has seen the light of day on LP or C...

Re: The great thread of electronic/synthesizer soundtracks
Does anyone know if the soundtrack to the 1982 film Android actually exists ? Don Preston did the main theme. I don't know if it's true but I've read somewhere that Don Preston's score for "Android" was released on an album called "Android - The Soundtrack collection". I have never seen a copy of t...

Re: The great thread of electronic/synthesizer soundtracks
Marcello Giombini (R.I.P.) is one of my favorite Italian film composers. As a young man he was a church organist and later developed a great passion for electronic music. In the early '70s he aquired a couple of ARP 2600's and an 'Eminent organ' (pretty sure it was a 310U!) and would use them to gre...

Oscar also had an Oberheim 8-voice dual manual if I recall correctly.tim gueguen wrote:redchapterjubilee wrote:

Re: The great thread of electronic/synthesizer soundtracks
The first film score you're describing sounds like "Endangered Species" (1982). I mentioned it on page 32 pf this thread. "Endangered Species" (1982) - another long-forgotten movie with a decent synthesizer score by Gary "the Dreamweaver" Wright. http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=PV5HXDov9NM Here you c...

FWIW, in the live footage from the Signals tour it looks like Geddy plays the voicy chords on the OB-Xa.

Re: The great thread of electronic/synthesizer soundtracks
Carlo Maria Cordio's score to Rosso Sangue is pretty cool indeed. The music was released on a promo record under the title "Absurd" back in the mid '80s but I have the feeling its hard to come by these days. The tracks posted on youtube are from a bootleg I think. I also like his score for Lucio Ful...

Welcome back "tomorrow"
Yeah, that movie is really bad but the same goes for many other movies mentioned in this thread. The score is pretty cool though.

Some more synth-driven scores from Italy... Cannibal Ferox (1981) - Music by 'Budy-Maglione' (Roberto Donati and Fiamma Maglione). Arranged and directed by Carlo Maria Cordio: http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=0U5e7TMI0us Note that most of the music in this film was originally composed for "Eaten Alive...

Re: What ever happened to Geddy Lee's giant Oberheim/Moog Sy
I wish he still used it. The Little Phatty sounds great too, but it's not a Minimoog or Oberheim. I'd also like to see him recreate the 2112 synth intro live, even just once, instead of sampling it. Me, too!! Except I heard that was done with an ARP Odyssey, and is several layers of different sound...
