Re: The great thread of electronic/synthesizer soundtracks

As far as I know Fabio Frizzi has used the Mellotron, Minimoog, ARP/Solina string ensemble, Rhodes ep, TR-808 and a Roland Jup-8 (which he still owns). He had/has a great passion for the mellotron and he personally played it on his scores. The ominous sounding male voice sounds in classic horror sco...

Re: The great thread of electronic/synthesizer soundtracks

Thanks for sharing, Micke! You're welcome :) I remember Schultze sold off a huge lot of instruments on eBay back in 2002, one of his two CS80s among them. I was outbid by 10 Euros, I think, and it was cheap (something around 2,000 Euros). A friend of mine bought Schultze´s Roland MC-8 which arrived...

Re: The great thread of electronic/synthesizer soundtracks

You're welcome, guys :) I'd guess the Fairlight was also used for the "Aahh..Aahh..Aahh's" in the second half of the track, and the gun shot effects are probably coming from the Minimoog. I'm not sure what gear Sylvester Levay used on the stuff he recorded for "Scarface" but chances are he used some...

Re: The great thread of electronic/synthesizer soundtracks

Here's some interesting insider-info on the making of "Tony's Theme" from Scarface (exclusively for VSE): German composer/arranger/keyboardist Kristian Schultze did the synth-work on "Tony's Theme", both the album version as well as the film versions of this track. I had an email conversation with h...

Re: The great thread of electronic/synthesizer soundtracks

Oh yeah, that's a great score. I already mentioned it on the very first page of this thread but that was back in 2007, how time flies  Here's the single version of the main theme: http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=XDOCf34YFBo Not sure if there's any Emulator 1 on there but Klaus confirmed to me ...

Re: Any synths with keys like the yamaha cs-80?

Poly AT needs a separate sensor underneath each key, which is of course alot more expensive. In the 80s there were just a couple of Ensoniq synths that had it, and before that, the Yamaha CS-80. There were other synths in the '80s that had Poly-AT eg the SCI Prophet T8, NED Synclavier (VPK), Yamaha...

Re: The great thread of electronic/synthesizer soundtracks

Has Howard Shore´s score to David Cronenberg´s "Scanners" been mentioned already? Sounds like there´s a lot of EMS and other analogue goodness on it. Stephen Howard told me some years ago that "Scanners" was mostly Prophet 5 as far as he could remember. Really? Wow! The last instrument I would have...

Re: The great thread of electronic/synthesizer soundtracks

Oh, Michael Hoenig´s "The Blob" score from 1988 is full of Synclavier, too. Stephen Yes, Hoenig's score is full of Synclavier and lots of other synths, too. Here's an excerpt from the CD liner notes: "The score to The Blob featured the absolute latest in synthesis and sampling technology at the tim...

Yeah I noticed that too. The one seen in the film looks somewhat different though.

Re: The great thread of electronic/synthesizer soundtracks

I just found out that Jeff Wayne (of The War of the Worlds fame) did a synth-driven score for a 1977 thriller titled "Golden Rendezvous": http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=M6502E8SlUk http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=6a82MFHkOsE The music is pretty good I think and very much in the vein of TWOTW. I have ...

Re: The great thread of electronic/synthesizer soundtracks

The Italian composer Marcello Giombini (1928-2003) - master of the ARP 2600 - did some really cool electronic albums and film scores back in the '70s and early '80s. However, with the exception of his score to "La Bestia Nello Spazio", recently released on CD by Beat records in Italy, most of Giombi...

Nope, I don't think I've heard that one.
