Re: Information on the Yamaha SY-1 Greatly Appreciated!
Guys, thanks so much. That Davoli keyboard seems awesome upon further inspection. Micke, what a treasure trove of information! Thanks a trillion, man! You're welcome :) WOW - did I just walk into 1975? Kaipa and Curved Air are some of my favs! This is so amusing to me, because I have actually heard...

Re: Micromoog appreciation thread
There's some really nice use of guitar synth driven Micromoog on Synergy's 1978 album "Cords". Here are a few examples.... The solo of "Full Moon Flyer" (first half of this audio clip) and pretty much all of "Terra Incognita" (the last half) were done on the guitar synth/Micromoog combo: http://www....

Re: The great thread of electronic/synthesizer soundtracks
I've always loved Giorgio Moroder's soundtrack to Midnight Express (1978), especially the film versions of "Chase" and "Theme from Midnight express" which sound more raw and edgy than the versions found on the soundtrack album. According to Harold Faltermeyer the music was produced at Musicland stud...

Re: Information on the Yamaha SY-1 Greatly Appreciated!
Oh yes, Hans Lundin did use a Davolisint in the studio and live to about early '75. After that he switched to the SY-1 which made its debut on their first solo album "Kaipa" (recorded in the summer of '75). You can hear the davolisint on this demo recording from 1974: http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=...

Re: Information on the Yamaha SY-1 Greatly Appreciated!
According to the service manual for the SY-2, the ones built for the North European market had the white power switch/pilot lamp. The same goes for the SY-1 I guess. I don't know what changes were made to the circuitry affter S/N 1395 but it's obvious that the change occured early in the production ...

Re: What is this?
It looks like the instrument pictured in the early Prodigy adverts from '79 although that one appears to have the same
wave forms and octaves as the normal version:
http://www.iheartsynths.com/?p=802 (first two adverts)
As far as I'm concerned it could be a prototype or pre-production unit.

Re: Fender organ Starmaster
There's some info on the Fender/Guild Starmaster on Combo organ heaven: http://www.combo-organ.com/Fender/fender.htm#Starmaster As far as I know the Starmaster was manufactured by C.E.I. (Bauer) of Bologna, northern Italy. C.E.I. released their own version under the name Bauer Starmaster: http://www...

Re: The great thread of electronic/synthesizer soundtracks
Parts of Lalo Schifrin's score for Sam Peckinpah's final movie, the 1983 thriller "The Osterman Weekend", are quite synth-heavy: http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=_Gno19Njemc There are a few more synth-driven cues in this score but I could only find the main theme on youtube. Btw, Alan Howarth was call...

Re: The great thread of electronic/synthesizer soundtracks
One filmscore which (I think) hasn't been brought up here yet is the score from Romancing the Stone . It's one of those classic 80s hybrid traditional/electronic scores. I know Alan Silvestri used a Synclavier for his Flight of the Navigator score. But, do any of you happen to know what he used for...

Re: Vince DiCola appreciation thread!
Here's a nice interview with Vince from 2011: http://www.examiner.com/article/composer-interview-vince-dicola-celebrates-25-years-of-transformers-the-movie In 1986, shortly after having finished work on the TFTM score , Vince and Casey Young contributed some tracks to a compilation entitled "Artfull...

Re: Vince DiCola appreciation thread!
Yeah, "Legacy" was DiCola's audition piece for the project. The rest of that album features early demos and alternate versions plus audio commentary by Vince. I have the other 2CD-set plus the 20th anniversary disc from 2007 but I'm still looking for this one. Here's info on all the Tranformers: the...

Re: Vince DiCola appreciation thread!
Here are a few more goodies from DiCola's synth-driven score to the Transformers: the movie (1986). Most of these filmtracks are afaik only available on a rare 2-CD compilation that was released back in 1997: http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Til_All_Are_One http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=NKFjrXwLMDY htt...

Re: "Magic Fly" - Which synths are used?
I'm pretty sure the two "Korg ensembles" were the PE-1000 and PE-2000.
Roland Romanelli referred to them as "Korg orchestral" and "Korg Ensemble" on his solo album Mc Lane Explosion - Space Music (also from 1977):

Re: "Magic Fly" - Which synths are used?
Quote from Didier Marouani: "We were using at that time the very first synths that we could get, "Mini Korg", “Korg String Ensemble” and “Korg Horns ensemble”, “ARP Axe and Arp Odyssey” for the very first album. They later added a Korg PS-3300 (for "Deliverance", 1978) and Prophet 5 & 10 synths for ...
