Interestingly, my want list is fairly short -- most of the stuff I wanted for ages has become incredibly expensive or unobtainium or both so... why bother chasing dreams? Or phantoms, for that matter.Tekhed66 wrote:[...] Don't get me started on my guitars and pedals.... or the STUFF I WANT!!!!!!!
Ex-Muse owner. I found mine at a carboot sale for musical instruments -- I used it for two albums but decided to let go of it because I'm no collector, I wanted something that is musically a bit more usable than the Muse.AdamAnt316 wrote:Nice! Re: Your lifelong equipment list
I wanted to ask Marc what the h**l made him buy an ASR-10? And what did you do with it?
You was sampling??????????
When the....what the.....
But everyone has something on their list that I want to ask about and hear the story, but that would derail/hijack the thread for sure. But yeah, there's some weird pieces that I want to know if you got it when it was 'first out' like way-long ago or did you bargain bin it and see it somewhere and snag it up. I wish we had little icons like
SIDUO (still own, dont use often)
LG (long gone)
IU (in use)
B (broken)
CK (collection keeper)
WPE (worst purchase ever)
But I digress....

Re: Your lifelong equipment list
In fairness, the ASR-10 is probably the most "synth-like" sampler ever
Ya I'd like to hear the stories too. Some instruments just click, but sometimes not because they're great, but because they were all you had and you squeezed everything out of it, made it your own.
@Itsmeonly: why did you keep the VZ? I've recently started to want mine back. I've totally forgotten how annoying it is to program LOL!
@stephen: I liked what you did with the Triadex Muse on your Soundcloud. Or is that about all it does? Or was it just worth far too much money?
@Tekhed66: I would've thought the JX8P was better than a 3P, or a Juno, or a Poly 6, no?
The Yamaha TX16W is one, for me. Since I sold mine last year, I'm using it a lot more (!) in the form of the Cyclone plugin. Although mostly just to transfer the samples out in Kontakt because they usually sound better there LOL. But the ADC on the Yamaha, and the sample rate conversion, does nice things. Also, I organised my library and found some gems. Typhoon 2000 is still the best OS ever on any sampler. It does stuff even Kontakt can't do (unless you have Redmatica Keymap).

Much obliged, Sir.madtheory wrote: [...] @stephen: I liked what you did with the Triadex Muse on your Soundcloud. Or is that about all it does? Or was it just worth far too much money? [...]
It's basically what the Muse can do -- when using plenty of outboard processing, that is. There is no filtering, there is no clearly defined pitch, and the way the four long-throw sliders interact is a bit, erm... erratic, i. e. you can't play it like a musical instrument. It's more like random bursts of notes at random pitches, with a simple pulsewave generator with continuously variable frequency providing the raw material.
For this single purpose, it simply was too much money (and too little musical use) sitting in my closet. That's why I decided to let go of it -- and bought an original white-face ARP Odyssey with the proceeds. I just can't abandon the idea of being more of a musician than of a collector...
