What 80s songs can the DX7 Tubular Bells be heard on?

The DX-7 tubular bells, or variations thereof, can also be heard on Charles Bernstein's synth-score to NIGHTMARE ON ELM STREET (1984). I really like this score and highly recommend it to those of you who are into spooky instrumental electronic music.

Agreed! It really is a creepy sounding score but there is a lot of very moody and interesting synth work.

Depeche Mode "People are People".

There ain't no DX-7 in that song, the bells, harp and metal sounds are from the PPG Wave and Synclavier II respectively.

EDIT: The tubular bells sounds on It Doesn't Matter could be the DX-7 though.

Not to correct the almighty Micke, but I was always thought that the harp is the 'Pentatonic Harp' sample/disk that came with the Emulator-1. However, I would certainly believe it could be a Waveterm sample or Synclavier sample too.

"“There’s a Synclavier harp sound in the verses,” contributes Alan, “and an ARP sequencer playing very fast in the chorus and there’s some Emulator sounds that we used for adding a few frills here and there.”

Thanks for the input micke. I always thought that bells sounding at the chorus end were coming from that Tubular Bell DX preset. It sounds equal. Then I could vote for synclavier.

I believe that's the PPG Wave 2 or 2.2 but am not sure.

Howard Jones 'What is Love' (1983)

Incidently, this was one of the first commercialy released tracks to use the DX7. You can hear the tubuar bell patch....along with the FM bass preset. Nice Jupiter 8 stabby chords and Juno 60 dark pad.

I have heard the DX-7 tube bells on "Perfect Lover" (1983) by Kansas, "Only Lonely" (1985) by Bon Jovi, "Livin' On a Prayer" (1986) also by Bon Jovi, "Top Gun Anthem" (1986) by Harold Faltermeyer and Steve Stevens, and "You Better Be Good to Me" (1984) by Tina Turner.
