i don't wait untill it makes a year i didn't used a piece of gear to sell it. my place is small and a usuless synth is a useless space, bear in mind that my music "studio" (yeah right! roll eyes) is 5' x 10' including storage.
i didn't played much on the an200, it was the first one i bought and i liked the idea of a drum machine and a synth inside one box. but the when the synth change pattern the volume drop for 1/2 like if it was computing the next pattern, very annoying. as a sound generator it falls behind the microkorg. so i wasn't using it much at all.
i did the same with the waldorf microQ, got it in an exchange, i was realy happy to get something more "pro" then a microkorg... but again i didn't used it much. i like it when it's immediate and i never hooked up with it. i'm more about the work flow then the sound and this one didn't cut through.
sr-16 also whent away, not because it's bad, or anything in fact programming beats on this was a breeze. it's just that the table was full and it wasn't used because of that. the drums are now almost exclusively coming from a sampler.
tx81z because if i want fm sound i use the nord modular or a soft synth
m3r i liked the piano on this thing, amazing with the build effects, it was like if it was breathing. i don't use it much now because i bought a piano sample library for the s5000/a4000 and i use the effects of the a4000 allot.
that's about it

Can't remember either but it was quite funnyJack Spider wrote:It reminded me of the time when a chap kicked off in here because he started a thread about a synth he liked (can't remember which one) and folk who didn't like it replied. He didn't want anyone to reply who didn't like it!![]()
I said TR-626 not getting love... well why? Because it sounds are not needed when I have Logic Ultrabeat and Jomox Xbase09 now doing the drums. I also didn't really take to the grid programming style. Seemed to need to read the manual quite a lot (which is normal for me) - but a pain when it is a pdf... maybe I should print it out.Jack Spider wrote: Anyone who has listed a bit of gear that hasn't been used for a long time - how come it's currently unused? Is it because it's unweildy? Not enough room to set it up? Do you have the sounds covered with other equipment? Are you bored with its sound?

Re: What synth (s) you own but haven't played for over 1 year
I wasn't talking about your reply at all. If SF hadn't put that comment 'but then I use my synths to make music not show off on the internet' (or whatever it was) I wouldn't ever have felt like commenting.Jack Spider wrote:Would you not agree that 'none - I sell when it's unused' is just as valid an answer as listing unused gear? I don't think first my reply was patronising - seems like you've read more into it than I did.
I don't care how many emoticons he used or what his actual intent was, saying something like in a thread like this was belittling to those who had took the time to post their synths in here. Even if unintentional, that phrasing was far more worthy of someone's derision than anything I've posted (I was just trying to be fair to all concerned and mostly agreed with the 'if you don't use it then sell it on' ethic).
If people want to post that they sell then fine, i'm not a mod nor do I really care if that's ALL people want to post, but it seemed all that was happening was people re-quoting each other saying 'I sell too' which wasn't answering the same question as the rest of us did.
I too could write 'if I don't use it I will sell it' which is 100% correct. I have sold stuff in the past and I will in the future. The question in this thread and applicable mostly to those who do have synths laying around unsold currently was 'what synths do you OWN but don't use'. It's really simple to answer that, or if you must then state that you never have such a situation because you somehow manage to unload your synths the second you decide they are no good for you. Again it's the apparent 'teaming up' of you couple of moderators and some other guys, sparked from the initial 'was a joke but seemed a bit patronising to people who'd already posted in the thread' comment from SF.
Now really, that is my last word on it - just don't like how you are trying to make me out as the bad guy here when I wanted to encourage discussion about synths rather than the psychology behind personal choice of selling/keeping (which is another threads topic?).
ah well...

Bloody h**l, Pro - nobody's trying to victimise you or anyone else! When I read your replies (which you've now explained were mainly directed at Stabs), it looked like you'd taken umbrage at something I'd posted from the tone of your postings - this comment, for instance - 'It and some following comments sounded a little patronising to my ears when as I pointed out it does actually take some time of non use before considering selling the synth in question'. I assumed that my comment had been taken as patronising.
As for an 'apparent teaming up' - that's pure paranoia, Pro! It's clear to me that you feel that there is something more sinister going on and I assure you that there isn't. Stab's not a mod in General Synths and I'm not posting as one (yellow background postings are 'mod' business). I simply share the same opinion as Stabs (and JSR, who isn't a mod) and stated it - that's all!
Crossed wires!
See the bit in bold? That's exactly what I did do, and you asked why, so I elaborated. My previous point is that you haven't chided anyone else for not elaborating, only those who sell on - hence my feeling 'singled out'. That's what I was trying to explain to you in my previous posting. If you're suggesting that anyone who sells stuff before it gets unused for extended periods can't post in this thread, then you are barking up the wrong tree!I too could write 'if I don't use it I will sell it' which is 100% correct. I have sold stuff in the past and I will in the future. Re: What synth (s) you own but haven't played for over 1 year
one im not using for more than a year, yet its fully working , is EMAX SE. i just dont have time, even tho it sounds lovely. i havent used MKS-70 either. altough it was my primo analog pad, next to a6 and jp8 it doesnt get much work.
another is, due to malfuction and not having time to fully deal with repair (tho i just started again) is my beloved Prophet 5 Rev2. booo ho hoooo. hopefully soon it will be okay. no biggie just a connection/seating issue. all chips and dacs work. hard to locate.

I've never kept anything longer than a year that went unused. Anything I haven't used in more than a couple of months gets the boot.

Re: What synth (s) you own but haven't played for over 1 year
I have a Casio CZ-3000, E-MU EMAX II and Roland D-50 sitting in cupboards right now. No space for them right now and besides they both have missing keys and, quite frankly, aren't worth selling given their current market value anyway. Much better to hold on to them for the time being - here's hoping hardware samplers will be in vogue once again in the future.
The Roland D-50, however, is fully operation (the aftertouch even works!) and is paired with the optional PG-1000, but neither of these are actually mine. I'm holding on to it for another synth head at the moment (and have been for some time!), which reminds me I should really phone him to find out when he's next up actually.
Everything else I own is hooked up and good to go in one way or another (the exception is the microKORG which is on standby for when I need something portable).
Despite all this I'll be the first to admit that I generally find it hard to part with gear. However not everything has been so lucky, including:
- An Alesis ION
- A Kawai K1
- A Roland D-50
- A Roland Juno-6
- A Roland JD-800
- A Tesico S-100P
I could into details as why I felt comfortable with letting them go, but that's probably for another thread.

Off Topic
On a lighter note my Polysix recently had an overhaul. The patch memory has finally been restored and a couple of troublesome pots aptly dealt with.

Does a Roland MC-307 count? God I used to use that thing constantly and it's not even hooked up anymore. I can't bear to sell it though b/c I know it in and out.
Oh yeah and a Moog Voyager RME. Right after I got that I got a Mini so yeah... That actually hasn't been used in over 2 years.

I would not say a whole year ever goes by without use but my least used synths are;
Poly800, microkorg, cz-1000, DX7, and Farfisa Fast 5(organ). And lately I have been considering selling all of these to help fund a proper Analog poly.

Re: What synth (s) you own but haven't played for over 1 year
I have a new baby around my studio... and it's.... a baby. My wonderful little girl, born a few months ago, whom I adore. Of course, there are a couple of necessary readjustments...
I had a Motif XS7, maxed out, and sold it.
I had two Virus TI's [not at the same time] and sold them - firstly to fund the XS. secondly because Omnisphere beats the h**l out of even it for sonic range. [Really. I didn't want it to, but...]
But.
Nowadays, with bottles and baths and general coo-cooing and parental duties, I don't get the time to fire up Logic and lay down track-per-track with my enviable softy collection.
I only like to keep one synth at a time. The synth I use most is, therefore, the synth I most neglect. My wonderful Korg MS2000B. I find that when I do fire it up, I play for kicks and enjoy every minute. It's a real hands-on synth, but my playing sessions now come in twenty-minute blocks - and sometimes I want to just play blues piano, or orchestral strings... so it's for sale, and I have an M3 on the way. Workstations can't compete with a complete higher-end soft studio, but they offer an immediacy that I miss, I need.

Re: What synth (s) you own but haven't played for over 1 year
Another vote for the Korg Wavestation here then.
I don't know why, but I haven't really gotten into the WS, even though I have had it for many years now. I guess that it simply isn't my kind of synth (I'm no pad guy, and the WS is mostly a pad machine). I've tried to sell it, but since it is a bit bruised it isn't worth much money. So I keep it in a corner of the studio, and take it along as a controller keyboard for some of our live gigs...
