Many thanks for all the suggestions - I've had the Linn 9000 from h**l on the bench - now finally back up and running after many days of intense resurrection but the sheer carnage the lithium batteries had caused to the motherboard was just incredible and had even rotted out multiple IC socket pins underneath the sockets including the processor!

Frankly I don't think the poor thing realises how close it came to the scrap yard in the sky!

Not sure if this will suit. As I've just posted on another thread, the Roland Promars MRS-2 has four 1,2 Ni Cd batts (Serial) on a bracket, separated from PCBs. However, their attached wires that connect them to the main PCB can "transport" some acid. It happened on mine, fortunately just the PCB connection got corroded.
