Yamaha RX11 Repair Thread

Hi, I am having trouble with the dreaded 8 Blocks on my display.

It is my second RX11 repair. The first just needed the button contacts cleaned and I upgraded the display.

I turned this one on and saw the 8 blocks in the display. The buttons trigged the sounds but needed cleaning.

I checked the battery and it needed replacement so I did that with a battery holder for easier replacement in the future

Viola! The display was working but I was getting an error when trying to save a patter. I did a reset and system check it said that one of the ram chips was bad. I replaced that. I did the reset/test and all was good

I turned it off and a few days later I turned it back on and the 8 blocks were back on the display. I assumed it was a bad display. I had upgraded one before so I got the same backlit display and installed it. I got the 8 blocks on the display again! I unplugged and replugged the display and the battery. Yay! The display worked! I programmed a pattern, p\did some finger drumming, all good!

I turned it off for a week, when I turned it back on the 8 blocks were back! I was getting sound from the buttons. I turned it off then on again and the display came back!

I turned it off for 5 days and now the blocks are back on the display, reset, rest/test mode and turning on and off do nothing to stop the 8 blocks in the display.

I have read this thread and learned that it is not the display but the machine is not booting up properly. Any ideas on how to fix this?

This is my first post here. Joined because I saw this thread hoping that you'd maybe shed some light for me seeing you seem to know your way around these Drum Computers!

I just bought a Yamaha RX 15 (Today) and it has the trigger problem where the samples are triggered several times and that's something I can do something about.

But I only have the left output working. When I plug my headphones into the phones-output it only plays from my left cup. The right output doesn't work and the left output works. What could this be? I read somewhere that there's a function where you can select if the pad/sample should play in stereo or not. But I'm unable to find such a function on the RX15.

Do you have any idea what it could be? It seems like there's two LPF after the DAC. Could one of them have given up?

I know this is six years too late, but maybe someone searching for this problem may find it useful. I had exactly the same problem with my RX11 (dead right channel) and it turned out to be a fairly easy fix. The audio output of both channels go up through the volume fader (situated on a small separate fader circuit board) and back again. On my RX11, one of the solder joints on this fader had gone bad - after a quick desoldering and resoldering in place the right channel works fine again.
