Can I transfer the patches from the synth to the PC?

Post by CeruleanBlue » Tue Oct 02, 2018 6:43 am

There's plenty online about how to download patches and put them on the SY77. Can I somehow load them onto a floppy and put them on my PC?

Right now, I have to record in audio, because if I use MIDI, it seems like it's recording in the voice I select, but ends up playing back in some awful generic computer MIDI voice. I tell the computer it's an external instrument, but it doesn't pick up any of the voices from my synth so that I can select them. Then, when I go to mix the MIDI file down to play elsewhere, it tells me I HAVE to record it as audio, and that it can't mix down a MIDI recording from an external instrument.

I'm totally new to all this and I'm obviously missing something!

If it matters, I'm using Multitrack Studio and I have a iConnectivity mio MIDI cable/USB thingy. Thanks!!

You have to record it as audio.

MIDI does not transfer audio, only control information. There is no way to use SY77 patches in any software instrument. You can get a suitable audio interface for about $100.
I listened to Hatfield and the North at Rainbow. They were very wonderful and they made my heart a prisoner.

Software synths are disposable intruments???

Hi there,

I have always considered synthesizers as true musical instruments and this means they are desirable and are worth keeping them for years regardless of their age.
The trouble is that a Yamaha DX7 from the 80s can still be used today but this cannot apply to software synths:
chances are high that you cannot install them on a newer computer with new generation of software. This makes me sad.
