Assign a parameter of CS6R to external controller

Post by chitarrone68 » Tue Aug 27, 2019 10:34 pm

hi everyone,
thanks for admitting me to the forums!

i woul like to ask the question about an “almost” vintage sound module the CS6R from Yamaha:
Does some of you know how to assign a parameter of a Voice of the CS6R to the knob of an external MIDI
controller?
thanks in anticipation
Have a great time with music!

You need the MIDI Implementation documentation for the CS6R. It's found in the Data List manual.

Starting on p.27 is a detailed list of all MIDI messages supported by the CS6R. Look through the list for the parameter you are after. Common ones like cutoff, resonance, attack, decay, release, etc. are assigned to standard MIDI CCs. Others may require system exclusive (sysex) messages.

If you're lucky, the parameter will be assigned a CC (those are listed on p.28 as "Control Change"). Set the control (knob or slider) on your controller to that CC...done.

If it requires sysex, check your controller manual to see if sysex messages are supported and follow the instructions there using the sysex data information found in the data list. Sysex typically requires a lot more trial and error to get set up properly.

Good luck.
I listened to Hatfield and the North at Rainbow. They were very wonderful and they made my heart a prisoner.
