Jupiter 8 Ebay auction

Post by Tekhed66 » Fri Jul 02, 2021 7:32 am

Did any of you tune in for the fun and watch the final bids on the JP8/midi on Ebay earlier today?

The winning bid price was GBP 20,099 / US $27,649.69 / AUD $36,984.03 plus shipping... starting bid price was just over GBP 500

UN.BELIEV.ABLE.

A Jupiter 8 more expensive than a CS80?

Where will this end?

Was that the Greek one? Looks like it may have been a fake auction. Shows up in search of completed listings but the auction itself is not accessible, and the main pic is not original.

This Italian one from July 1st is half the cost and appears to be a genuine sale:

Madtheory...

Listing seemed legit... JP8 came from the UK and the bids were rolling in thick and fast... I'd been checking over the 7 days and all seemed OK.

Here's the listing

Hmmmm...
"we are listing to see what the current market is"
"Serious offers will be considered upon viewing and playing satisfaction."

At this price, I'd want to see better pics than sitting on a cheap kitchen table, at least with it switched on. Was this an attempt to drive up the price some more? On the other hand, maybe they're simply being accomadating allowing inspection before payment.

That's pretty much what I was thinking... only one very bad photo of the synth and a shot of the serial number plate... It would have been good to see a series of pics - especially as this is a hot-ticket item and one that you'd expect to fetch a high price (and not the insane stratospheric price we just saw)... they did offer inspection which was good if you lived close by but being on the other side of the world, I'd have wanted to see a lot more detail down to the individual last nut and bolt.

Anyway - someone's now either a very proud owner of a JP8 or the world biggest sufferer of buyer's remorse... just really curious to know if and how this synth will get used.

Fools and their money...
I listened to Hatfield and the North at Rainbow. They were very wonderful and they made my heart a prisoner.

At the Japanese Yahoo auction, they usually go for 2000000-3000000 yen. So, this is a pretty normal price

I would triple the value of my car if I ever put a real JP8 on the back seat :D ...

Crazy, crazy money no matter what the circumstance.

They definitely seem to be coming up to the realm of CS-80 prices now. Prices on other vintage polysynths going up a lot too, but not by that much ! :D
