Andrzej Zaucha 1988 live synth identification

Post by segun » Tue Apr 05, 2022 5:28 am

Does anyone recognize what beasts were used in this song? It's called "Byłaś Serca Biciem" and the video is from live in Opole from 1988.

The sound that starts from 1:36 is particularly interesting.
Good shots of keyboards are on 3:22 and from 4:28 till the end.

Sitting guy uses a Roland D-50.
Standing guy plays a Roland JX-8P while having a Roland Juno Alpha 2 on the upper tier.
It is all about sharing...

Hello!
The sound at 1:36 obviously turned out to be D-50. No synth is that characteristic as D-50.
The closest sounding preset I found is 8-7: Future Pad and it's probably that. But turn down the attack on the transients, cause on Zaucha's song it's sounding more stricking.

Thank you very much for such detailed answer! Sorry for a long response time. I guess you're right, D-50 has very distinctive patches that still sound fresh and exciting today. And in 1988, there weren't many alternatives that could even do similar sounds. I checked this Future Pad preset, and I think that you are correct. It has this kind of fresh bite (I'm using the Roland plugin). Do you think the main rhythm/bass is also done on D-50? It sounds very digital.

Alternate take of this song was posted yesterday (it's probably from the other night), now with keyboard shots focusing entirely on the D-50.
These nice JX-8P brass chords from the previous version seem to be missing here.

I actually dug deeper in the D-50 plugin and found out this "Digital Sound" preset, supposedly from PN-D50-01 expansion card. Just take a listen! I think they used a modified version of this preset in that song.

It's DigitalNativeDance preset and it's sounding differently, for sure it's not that preset in the song, if you mean the same which we were talking previously.

I think the bass is also D-50, lot of presets very similar to that one. Unfortunately didn't manage to find that particular one. Let me know if you wanna get that bass sound then maybe I will dig deeper, it's my passion, let's say.
Also considering that bass is stereo then, if it is played on single synth, then counts for that it may be the D-50, cause only on the D-50 you can create the sound where the particular element is panned differently than other elements.
