Just got a Juno 106.....
And I don't care for it! Never did like these but this one is almost mint (has a little scratch on the face, looks new otherwise) so I couldn't pass it up. What's the big deal about these things? ALso, what should I expect to get from this if I sell it?

Around $400.
The Junos are just straight forward and simplistic but are capable of covering a fair amount of areas.
Leads, Basses, pads, some effects, etc.
They're just capable simplicity really.

Nah, honestly, when these things came out I never cared for them much. I ended up with the Poly 61 because I really wanted two oscillators. I used to have to program them constantly for bands and in the studio, so I pretty well know what they are capable of, there's not many secrets to them. I have a JX-8P now, and after messing with the Juno for a few hours tonight, I kicked the JX on, and to me I much prefer the JX. I doubt I'll have regrets.jayman wrote:REMORSE?
That's not to say the 106 isn't a cool synth though, it just doesn't tickle my ear at all. Taste is a funny and illogical thing I guess

COntra, what did you pay for yours curiously? And do you want a twin brother for it?

Re: Just got a Juno 106.....
well put. the junos are synths that you can just about always go to for something quick and have it sound good. don't know how i'd feel about a juno without an arpeggiator, though, as that comprises much of he appeal of the 6 for me.23 wrote:Denms20 wrote: The Junos are just straight forward and simplistic but are capable of covering a fair amount of areas.

Not every synth rubs everybody the right way. Many will just think the Juno is way too simplistic and limited.
And others think it's the most awesome synth evaarrrr. I am in the middle. I am astonished at the wide range of warm sounds it can do, even without the chorus. Great organs and brass. It was my first real analog too. Only bought mine a couple of years ago.
I imported first the factory sound banks into it via Tape Load input, to see what the fuzz about the great presets was about. And they blew my socks off, literally. Mine came loaded with mostly homemade sounds which left me cold. I've made some pretty wild LFO effects with this thing. And the filter is lovely dirty on highl resonance with oscillators present in the mix. Without oscillator it is clean and pure.
The whole synth is one big sweet spot I think, it isn't possible to make it sound bad.

I absoutely love mine, but it happens to be the only analog I've played. Having tinkered with software subtractive synths (like the extremely expansive Massive), I can definitely see its limitations, but I just find its filter and oscillators very yummy to my ears. I guess that's why I've already dropped the cash to replace two dead voice chips. I really dig the sound.

it is the least favourite synth i own, not because it sounds bad but because its sound palette is so limited, i can almost always tell when it is used (and this is why i hate billy ørbit, ruining tracks with this organ). single oscillator design is the bottom of the barrel to me. i feel like after sitting in front of it for 20 minutes, i know everything it can do. i paid $0 for mine!
however, i LOVE my alpha Juno 2 (paid $225 in new/unused condition!!!), it sounds so dark, like every good horror movie from the early 80s, the ONLY synth i have that i actually have used a preset from. nearly identical architecture, go figure! but with velocity sensitivity!

Sell it or quit complaining.xpander wrote:nothing, really. i got mine for free!23 wrote:It's a pretty simplistic synth man. What do you expect?xpander wrote:it is the least favourite synth i own, not because it sounds bad but because its sound palette is so limited
Actually, if you want, you can give it to me for free.
I like the 106, it's noisy a*s chorus and all. I really don't know why, but I do. Probably due to it's simplicity actually.
But then again, what I like least about the thing is it's simplicity as you can only take it so far and you can reach those limitations REALLY damn fast.

I'm sitting here with a 106 and a Alpha JU-1, and guess which one I prefer the most? Yep, the Alpha 1. I bought the 106 because of all the hype, and honestly it's just that - HYPE. The price for them has come down, and I'm not really in a position to take a loss selling it at the moment, so I'm keeping it - for now. The JU-1 on the other hand, I don't think I will ever sell. It's just a cool sounding, under-rated synth.Bitexion wrote:Not every synth rubs everybody the right way. Many will just think the Juno is way too simplistic and limited.
