Synth Programming Tutorial Videos

Post by kogmachine » Thu Aug 02, 2007 6:05 am

I've been looking for a good series of videos that explain how to program certain types of sound through subtractive or FM synthesis(e.g. how to program a kick drum). I pretty good at making patches but I feel I don't know enough to really "push the envelope" with my synths.

I think it would be great if someone out there made some youtube videos explaining exactly what knobs you have to tweak to get your desired sound.

Modulation routing is something I don't fully understand... I know how to route my modwheels to filter cutoff but haven't ventured much further than that. I'd make some videos myself but I don't have a camera. Anyone got the time and means to do something like this?

Hmm...

I wonder why no one wants to get in on this. Welly, welly, well I've got access to a camera for the week and I think I'll post some videos on YouTube unless someone can give me a good reason not to. You'll probably laugh at my boring patches, but I asked you if anyone was interested and there's no takers. AKITM is my YT screen name, so if there are any programming newbies out there I hope I can help you out.

Well in my video I make sounds and explain quickly how they are done. And AG does as well for many of his.

I can't really tell from your post if you're looking to make a video or looking for an instructional video.

Regardless, here are some tutorials, not videos, but you might find them useful:

Well I don't know much about programming. Today I tried to program a kick drum and was successful but not too pleased with the results. I don't really think you guys would have to be particularly entertaining or knowledgeable to share what you know with other synth enthusiasts. And you're all worthy because of your interest in synths. As far as FM goes, I don't know jack about it and don't even own a decent FM synth. My Ion has it, but I don't yet know how to fully implement it. I'd really like to learn as much as I can, and I know some of you have some good experience. Can anyone give me some tips so I can relay them to others?

Thanks TunedLow, this will help me out a lot.

OriginalJambo, this is good... this is what I want to do but not for any specific synth. I appreciate your effort on these vids and I have to say it was entertaining.
