Pet Peeve

Post by droolmaster0 » Thu Aug 09, 2007 3:28 pm

Can people stop referring to synths as 'beasts'? Isn't this beyond a cliche by now? (grouchy)

maybe we can limit the use of the term to synths weighing over 100 pounds.

My pet peeve is people complaining that certain synths weigh too much. Like my AX-60 ... people said it weighed a ton. It's really light.

Are keyboard players in general weaklings? Are they the people that actually liked piano lessons as a kid? So their parents then pampered them into being total pussies?

I admit.. a Crumar Orchestrator can be a b***h though.

I have a similar reaction when I see the phrase "lush pads" -- makes me want to vomit. I encountered it over and over again when I was researching before buying my first one. It almost turned me off of synths entirely.

Pfffft, yeah, If you can get your arms around it then grin & bear it, if it's huge as well as heavy then you've got yourself a problem.

Hey Hey Hey! I'm taking lessons...
But yeah, it is annoying when people complain about how heavy a synth is.
And beast has been a bit redundant lately... but a lot of the times it's one of the best words to describe a monster synth like mine... just kidding.
haha

That said, carrying a flight-cased DX7 with a hernia and an itchy arse leaves a lot to be desired.
I didn't get where I am today by posting on internet forums.

ha... probably yes, yes and yes to all of the above! Not necessarily a problem mind .. but even keyboardists in the heaviest metal acts always look kind of weakly:lol:

but look, it's not just synthesists who refer to their tools as "beasts"... Any given paleontologist/biologist will refer to his organism of choice (from dinos to dinoflagellates) as a "beast", and i've even known geologists to refer to individual grains of sand in a sediment as "beasts", so go figure!
Do you even post on vse bro?

Was this really necessary? If you're grouchy... just wait a day and come back when little, nonsensical figures of speech don't bother you. Truthfully...I don't like the word either, but it's really not a big deal. 8) Basically, you don't like the machine that was called a beast so it irked you. It happens all day long here and in every other forum about electronic devices.

See there Jugel? We agree an something.

The rest of you pussies can earn the right to call something heavy after you've hauled around a Hammond.

And a Leslie.

And a f**k real piano.

88 key weighted workstations feel light to me. You're all spoiled, dammit!

Yeah man my Matrix 1000 is such a beast I broke my damn rack when I mounted it! DUDE! IT SOUNDS SO BEASTEEEEEEEE!!!!

Sorry man I just don't see the point here. Sure the phrase is over used and I have few peeves regarding words or phrases too, but this is more of an Off Topic...topic isn't it?

All in good fun though, yeah?

Me too.

And the turn signal one.

Also, assholes who drive the speed limit in the left f**k lane.

And while we're at it, people who stand in line at the bank doing nothing, and when it's their turn, then they fumble around for their deposit.

Now that I think about it, the beast thing is no big deal. Just a word.
