I won't play SYB-5 anymore...

Post by kulten » Fri Aug 10, 2007 5:09 pm

well, it's the end of the SYB-5 age...

Image

in fact, I do have fun and I still discover tricks with SYB-3.

and I can't find new tricks on SYB-5 now.

since 1996, my pleasure is to plug a drum machine into the SYB-3. I had some other stuff to play with : first DD-3 delay, then I tried all BOSS effects, then a second SYB-3, VT-1 vocoder, and finaly the SYB-5 instead of the second SYB-3.

in fact I often play live only with SYB-3... so... farewell SYB-5... :hello2: I will simply use it as a distortion/filter for my SYB-3, but not as a synth, exept for one track...

don't know why I posted that... must talk to someone.

did you once have that feeling with a machine ?

I've had that feeling after using many machines...but never gave any of them the time you gave to the SYB-5. I'd say you did the right thing. Where can I hear your tracks again?

I'm working on the SYB-3 and playing the "PWM + NOISE" mode trying to create an "overdrive" sound-like :

ah yes...but kulten is such a minimalist, that he doesn't use the pedal as an effect...he feeds it triggers from the drum machine and uses it as a synth.

no, I'm not a Moog sound addict while playing, I prefer Roland/Boss sound.

You don't have to be addict for something to be useful. It could be fun to run the SYB-3 through the MF-107 on sync for even more fun than you are already having.

I must explain something : with SYB (3 and 5) you can play "synth sound" or you can run an instrument trhough "wave shape filters", but you can't run the synthesizer through its own filter.

you need two SYB to do that.

and the two "Wave Shape" effects from the SYB-5 are really good, something like a distorted filter an "industrial" overdrive...

I won't use the SYB-5 like a synth ; just, as I said, for its filters.

You seem like the right person to ask... :)

Is the SYB3 analogue or digital???

both SYB are digital.

the difference ? the price... 8)

I phoned to ROLAND FRANCE (of course I'm french)...

I have a reply : the chip in the SYB-5 is less expensive because it's a chip used in others products, and the chip in the SYB-3 was made only for the SYB-3.

so the sounds are differents too.

SYB3 is MEGA. I'm very dubious of the SYB5, mainly because you can still buy them new, and i'm a luddite. The 3 sounds really good, no digital artefacts at all, despite the fact it's digital.
