Vapourware that never materialised

Post by kk994 » Sat Aug 11, 2007 3:11 pm

I thought it might be an idea for a fun thread. I haven't seen it about.
Vapourware that was promised and never materialised. A history of synths that could have been.

I'll start with possibly the most controversial piece of vapourware The SMS2000

Y'know, this actually works better with software, because for most hardware you'd at least need one prototype.

Also, to get more replies than the Bahn Sage, you might want to include evaporateware - announced with a lot of ho-hum and then quietly killed off after a short time ;).

Kurzweil VA-1
Ensoniq 16/4/2 mixer (yeah, it's not a synth, but it's a product we would have considered at the time)

the new rhodes pianos.

aside from the prototypes, they don't exist. in fact, they have yet to come up with a way to produce them for a price the market will bear. the actual guts in the ones that were shown at the shows last year were gutted from late model rhodes pianos.

i'd gladly eat my words, but it is my opinion, and that of people i know who are very close to the project, that it will never see the light of day.

again, i'd be happy to be wrong about this...but a new shell, some modded electronics, and midi sensors in the keybed does not a new rhodes make.

You could pretty much say that about all the big synths from namm, the stromberg, solaris, etc. etc. its all vapourware until it isn't.
.....i have some things that create and sculpt sound.
