Spending $2000 on a modern Prophet to get a Juno sound? Yes, I'd say that qualifies as asking a bit much. :D
astraeus000 wrote:at that price I imagine we'll be seeing the prices on alot of old analogs coming down on Ebay....
They'll keep trying to push them at the usual prices going "Hurr, these are the original deal and have VCOs." People will still buy the older stuff, old gear heads are going to mess their pants about this being a compromise or something.

Now I hope that my server doesn't crash:

Taken from a prototype however. I think the definite version will have LEDs with a different colour.

GUYS! I will take all your shitty 5-voice prophets with unstable VCOs off your hands. Just let me know where and when to come pick it up.

Will the P8 use the PEK keyboard? It's one of the nicest synth key actions IMO. Anyways, this whole P8 business is simply wonderful news! I'll start saving my cents now, because I am getting one! :)

I really hope there's some kind of connectivity with the PEK and the 08 because, as much as I would love to, having both and only being able to run an 08 thru the evolver's filter/fx would be a bit of a let down, as well as (I would assume) make the PEK less valuable to people for whom polyphony is a supreme concern (keyboardists, perhaps).

If it is possible, there should be a rack (12 voice poly evolver/prophet craziness), even if that makes it into a kind of modern super jupiter. Probably won't happen...

this rules and is so out of the blue

Wooooooooow ! ! ! !

Great News...and the price Tag is more than correct. I will listen to the video in a few minutes... I need something better than my Computer Speaker.

And here was I looking at PER to add poly to my MEK. I really want a P8 instead now - if the interface is half as good as the MEK it will be stunning. Are there any pics out at the moment? How big is it etc?

I hope it is at least 61 keys! 76 and I'd probably be gravitating uncontrollably to my checkbook.

That's the best news of the year!!

Does it have aftertouch?

I just loved the Evolver's keybed so I guess it will....

And, concerning the anniversary edition, is it released next week as wwell or should we wait? (Because I can't :D :D :D )

Anyway, thanks to everyone at DSI!!!

By the way Dave, if you guys at DSI take that opportunity to reduce the price of the Poly Evolvers, I think I might still go for the Poly Evolver rack ;-)

My God, I'm really going to end up broke... Broke but happy!!! ;-)

nadafarms wrote:one question

are the oscillators DCO?
Yes.
I thought the evo's oscillators couldn't touch the sound of the prophet 5, 600's oscillators as far as raw fatness. I will cry if the new p8 oscillators aren't fat enough sounding (like the evo's IMHO)
As I mentioned - they're tweaked differently and sound different than the Evo's oscs - fairly noticeably, I think. IIRC, Dave messed with the Oscillator Slop parameter a bit as well.
More important than the oscs being tweaked is the filter imo. The Evo oscs had their own sound but the filter was just too perfect and lacked any character unless it had loads of resonance. Some type of filter slop would be cool.

Still, very interested, wonder if there's any tasty saturation going on in the analog domain?
