I'm going to re-emphasize what I read elsewhere and I hope he does not mind, but it sums up what I think perfectly.
Everyone: grips that no affordable analog polys are being made.
DAVE SMITH: I will make an updated prophet!
Everyone: It doesn't do this? Or that? SOFTWARE ENVELOPES?
A LOT of people are coming off here as ungrateful a-holes. And again FOR SOMETHING NO ONE HERE HAS EVEN TOUCHED. Sheesh.

The BIG thing here to me is that it's hinted at being around £1,000...? Excellente for an 'eight' voice analogue poly to me.
Anyone with an ounce of sense would wait for pics, video/audio demo's plus an INFORMED opinion/review of the Prophet 08, BALANCED AGAINST COST, before spouting off.....
BTW, those that 'generalised' DCO's as thin, play a Synthex and you'll soon shut up.

LOL! I KNOW you write Hall and Oats covers, I've SEEN you play it live!!prophei wrote:are you suggesting i write hall and oats covers? are you sugesting that i am not aware of "electronic music"? is there a reason you are making stupid statements like that? i have been writing, performing and helping create tools for this "electronic music" you speak of for years, and i apparently don't need a multi-timbral prophet to do it... why do you?
Just kidding!!
I am extremely excited about this thing. I can't wait to see the feature list(which I hope db shares soon - or I'm going to blow all of my money on 7 more Waldorf Pulses, so I can stack them, just to spite DSI
Dave, for crying out loud > SHARE THE FEATURE LIST!!!

1) Hall & Oates is the s**thfinn wrote:That was a pretty jack-a*s thing to say, for two reasons. 1) It's implying that you are better than they are. Everyone has a niche EVEN if he is playing hall and oates covers, It's no better or worse than what any of us do and 2) Hall and Oates are awesome.JUGEL wrote:Makes a big difference for people that like to make what I call ... electronic music.... not Hall & Oates covers.
2) there seem to be a lot of "players" that hate on the younger techno kids ... I'm stuck in between. That's what the Hall & Oates comment sorta meant.
3) He was trying to be a hero, and it wasn't necessary... because there is more than a enough people already excited about this.
4) I've been really liking my SixTrak and it's mult-timbrality.
5) Just a little letdown... because my friend has always lusted after the Prophet 5 ... I think if it was multi-timbral he would buy it in a second, but now I might have to find clever ways to convince him without him selling his Jupiter 6 w/Europa

1. people are actually MAD that dave would make a synth without consulting them first...? excuse me but ...HUH???
2. people are already talking about how it sounds and they have NEVER STOOD IN FRONT OF ONE... HUH??
3. people actually feel they are in a position to tell dave what a real prophet IS, WAS or SHOULD BE... again... HUH???
how can any of you who fit the above not just feel like complete losers? this man brought us some great instruments that he made the way he wanted to make them. now he is bringing us more of them... and you are complaining WHY???
why don't you stop whining like little children and go build your own damn synths that consist of all the little pet features YOU like...and then lets see how good THOSE sound... fair enough?
thank you dave smith for always making cool music equipment. i have owned various pieces over the years, and will undoubtedly continue to do so. good luck with the new synth. i can't wait to play it.
Mr Smith has probably forgotten more about synth design than all of us here know.
Only ever had a Pro One (foolishly sold about 15 years ago), always wanted a Prophet 5, maybe I can finally put that ghost to rest and 'make do' with a modern instrument.
Just wish it had SSM filters and more wood ... (no! no! just kidding...
As he said, if you don't like it, don't buy it. Go and build your own, it obviously isn't that hard...

How about some of our number showing a bit of grace, allowing the P8 to be released and seeing what it CAN do, instead of complaining about what it can't?
I don't know if it's just me, but I can't help but feel that some of you could do with exercising some manners and perhaps a little gratitude at the fact that Dave's come on here with exclusive news of a new synth.
How about instead of whining at what little teaser information we've been given, show a bit of patience before mouthing off? It'd be a very sad day if the likes of 'Disappointed, Berkshire' has put Dave (or anyone else in such a position) off from posting any future exclusive peeks on here.

Well, know that you mention it, the BBC has already received a letter from "Disgruntled, Tunbridge Wells" complaining that it won't make her tea...Jack Spider wrote: It'd be a very sad day if the likes of 'Disappointed, Berkshire' has put Dave (or anyone else in such a position) off from posting any future exclusive peeks on here.

not only that, but i have to admire Mr Bryce for his restraint. if a bunch of faceless tits started insulting a company i was stronly affiliated with (especially after giving them what they keep bitching about), i would track them down and punch holes through their chests.
of course, at the end of day he probably takes solace that he isnt some whiny fishbelly living in a mouldering basement.
(no offense to the non whiners that do indeed have studios in mouldering basements
)
now the rest of your freaks can continue your inane pedantology
