If it helps any, I'm telling you right now that the Evolver engine can cover A LOT more sonic territory than a P'08 engine. I don't believe people are going to confuse the two, or think that the P'08 can replace the PEK (or a Mono Prophet or whatever can replace an Evolver desktop). No way. It's the other way around and rightfully so.

I believe it does...at least, the keyboard version did, I think....cc#s in the teens, if memory serves....up/down something like cc#16, left/right cc#17...or was it 13 and 14...?

dB
Yup, it's #16 and 17 on my WS-key.

depends on what you are "replacing" ... for a quick and simple instrument to be used in a band.. ... Prophet...

interface goes a long way with me... being in a band where I can't waste people's time digging through menus.

The interface on the Prophet looks to be laid out in exactly the same way as that of the PEK so I'm not sure I agree about the band situation and it being easier to use.

For me the similarities in the interface is a good thing as I'm comfortable with a MEK and can translate that to the Prophet easily.

I cant cope anymore - I had to increase my unsecured personal loan

This synth is going to be a hit. Existing PolyEvo owners should not feel threatened by the P'08.....its just a s**t hot, good looking analog polysynth for a new generation of keyboardists and synth lovers. Im so happy Dave put this one out......

Seriously guys....how f**k tasty does this new P'08 look!

The product offshoot for this is going to be awesome....an affordable analog mono must be a dead cert within 18 months....coupled with the Boom Chick......christ almighty I cant contain myself. I personally know 3 people who have placed orders.....thats unheard of in my circle of friends.

The fact that it's far less clutter and BIGGER. makes a big difference to me. I hate those tiny little knobs... screams studio to me.

oh .. and finally being able to play at least 5 notes at a time. I don't know about you guys .. but I sure as h**l can't play synth pop with just 4 voices... I need at least a Maj7th and a bass note.

So many people for so many years have asked Dave Smith to put out a new Prophet. It was endless. Dave had said that he wasn't interested in doing a "Retro" synth, but let's face it, as musicians we still need B&B sounds, we have to cover a lot of sounds with one board, and cover at least some classic rock tunes. We all need a good poly analog.

Getting an 8 voice Prophet with all the goodies it has that the original Prophet didn't have for $2000.00 is a freakin' bargain. I paid $3200.00 for my Prophet 5 back in 1981 (add inflation to 1981 dollars and see what that comes out too) and here we have a new synth by Dave, with Dave's GREAT customer support, AND a warranty. Can't beat that. Like others have said, it will sell.

A Major 7th is usually four notes as Jugel said.

It is made up of the 1st, major 3rd, perfect 5th and major 7th - so a C major 7th is C E G B. Add a bass note and you'll need a polyphony of 5.

I think 6 notes of polyphony is acceptable for a poly analogue myself.

agreed - I don't think some younger types always remember how expensive analog polys were in the late 70s and 80s.. :!:

Well, you can't say it's just an updated Prophet-5, because the oscillators are different, the filters different, and the whole panel structure different.
See it as its own Prophet, don't compare it to everything old.

Dave says in interviews that he doesn't the same things over and over, he hates doing that. Thus there is no "new" Pro-1 clone, even though people beg all the time.

definitely, but the point I was really wanting to make was about the whole range of polysynths from the late 70s up into the 80s - many of them were far more in todays's prices than $2000...

there are 15x the amount of polyphonic synthesizers for sale in 2007 than in 1980....
