Is the x0xb0x build worth the hassle?

Post by Soundwave » Sun Sep 16, 2007 12:17 pm

I've just got an email regarding the next run tho I got inpatient a few months back and got a Revolution instead.
I'm not too bad with a soldering iron so I'm wondering if its worth the hassle to maybe sell on once built.

Is the build a blagg or quite straight forward even if you have a basic knowledge of electronics? :?

I was under the impression that it is mostly "solder by numbers". Just curious, how long did you have to wait for your number to come up?

I'd say it is worth it.

It took me about 8 or so hours all up to make mine, but I have done quite a lot of soldering. The sequencer is great, I'm thinking of keeping mine as a sequencer for my (still under construction) modular. If you like the 303 sound it's exactly like it, I'm not the biggest 303 fan though.

I wouldn't build one just to sell it, there's always a chance it'll take you hours and hours of troubleshooting after you've finished the build and you'll end up just making a couple of dollars an hour to perform some every frustrating work. Let someone else have it I say.

I joined x0xb0x waiting list on 22 of April, got confirmation e-mail two days ago. That's almost 5 months.

i don't need x0xb0x anymore, so if you're going to buy one of the current run, i can tell you the info you'll need to order it.

Sent an email 30th April, still wondering if two 303 emulators would be better than one. 8)

No, it's probably for the best that my name didn't come as I can't really afford the $300 right now. Thanks though.

Seems like I've been on the list forever but it's only been 3 months. Hopefully I'll make the next run.

If you are into building your own stuff, it's really worth, it was my first big proyect and turned up fine, no troubleshooting at all but you have to follow the instructions carefuly or else... and for the sound, you get exactly what you where after.

I think if you go for it, you will not want to sell it later, however if you do, you got it for the wrong reasons.

Just beware, the DIY thing is addictive, I'm about tho continue with an mb808 and mbSID proyects, the x0x was a piece of cake compared with these :D

What was your experience prior to making the xox? Just wondering how in over my head I will be!

Check your spam filter, sometimes the confirmation emails don't make it through.

I joined the list on the 23rd October last year and got the call up on the 10th of May, so that was almost 7 months, but I only just missed the run before that.

mmm, not too much experience really:

2 of those n x one electronic proyects as a kid, still have them around :D, is not like I learned a lot from them anyway. And a lot of dismantled radios, rc cars, etc. to see what made them work... until I they fell in my hands.

A lot of audio cable repairs over 17 years of playing, I'm quite good with the soldering iron now!

1 Atari Punk console on veroboard(fried 2 or 3 chips before getting it right). I took this one as a preparation for the x0x build.

The build of the x0x actually encouraged me to try some more DIY stuff
I even learned to do my own PCB's. for this:
Some DIY guitar fx pedals from Tonepad(all working fine).
1 VCF from yusynth (working fine too, some other modules still on hold).
And now the mb808 and mbSID... this new hobby is getting expensive hehe.

Thanks for the info. Sounds like I should find a couple starter projects first!
