Roland Sh09 or SH02??
i am considering the acquisition of either the roland sh09 or sh02. it "seems" to me that the roland sh02 is simply the 09 with an added osc... is this the case? can the sh02 make the same great bass sounds that can be had from the 09? i'd love to get your opinions about the strengths and weaknesses of both...
thank you!

The SH-09 is a great synth, I have a video demo of it on YouTube.
You'd probably want an SH-02 more simply because it has the other oscillator... but good luck finding one. You'll see several SH-09s for every single SH-02 you see.

I wonder if the SH2 also has more waveforms? It has 5 incl. noise. (ie sine on Osc1,noise on Osc 2, and both have saw, square and PW). I don't know if the SH09 has autobend (not that I use it).
But one thing the SH2 can do well is thundering bass drones, and a cute little effect detuning one oscillator when playing a slow brass type line.

For the price of an SH2, you could probably get an 09 plus a moogerfooger freqbox. You could control the freqbox with the 09 CV out and run the Freqbox into the audio/filter in of the 09.
I have SH101 audio + CV/Gate out running into the 09 to have a 2 Osc 09 with a sequencer/arp. It works pretty well.

apart form the second oscilator the SH09 are identical , in built and in sound.
for most tehcno, electro etc huge punchy basses, that made sh2 what it is, u would use only the vco1 and sub, so for this sh09 would suffice too.
however, what SH2 gives u in addition is range of nice detuned leads and arp/seq sounds, epsecially effective with both osc running PWM with fairly fast LFO.. typical "roland" electornica sound, whatever that means. connect this to CV/GATE out of an 303 (i did) and its heaven once you start tweaking them sliders.
for straight portamento style clean leads, i tend to use self-oscillated filter the most - much more organic than sine on the oscillator in such high range. so SH9 can do this too. however you have a whole range of killer basses you can do only by combining different waveforms on two osc - for example saw plus sine, or square plus sine plus sub etc.. with lowered cutoff it moves my whole building 8).
in addition here's a re-post of SH-2 demos i did last year for VSE, i think its easy to hear which feature single/dual vcos:
lead-to-thickbass
bass
blipp_brapp
warmlead
discrete_bass
dblsawlead-to-bass
pwbass_filter_sweep
selfosc_R2D2
square-pw-pwmseq
pwm_filter-sh
power
snappy_kicks_n_bleeps
selfosc->subbass

A lot of the best Roland basses come from one VCO and a Sub, so the SH-09 would be a great. But with the SH-2 that extra VCO is there if you need it. I love my SH-09 to death. Its one of the finest bass synths out there. I think its THE Roland bass synth.
A6 Andromeda, MS20 Mini, M500SP, DS-8, Motif 7, DX11,
hmmm...
thanks for all your opinions. i am very tempted to lose my korg mono/poly and find an sh-2. i am also wondering if i should wait on the roland and save for an arp 2600...
decisions decisions...
