I'd still be surprised if it was anything more than an announcement though. A small company like DSI couldn't afford to sink time and money into a rackmount design without first knowing if the base unit was going to be successful or not.

But I could be wrong, of course. I tempt thee, perversity!

Exactly- unless the LinnDrum took up all of DSI's time, we are probably seeing a Prophet Rack in the near future, if not at NAMM. But oh, I would just kill for a desktop version with all the knobs....!!!

I as much as I'd want it I doubt it'll have any knobby interface, as if you had a p08 and just wanted double polyphony (which is what you use poly-chain for, isn't it?), you wouldn't wan't to pay for the interface all over again, now would you? But if they did make a useable interface though (for example phatty-like) it would be great. :D

I doubt it. They already cut down heavily on the functionality from the Evolvers in order to be able to make an 8-voice polysynth feasible at that pricepoint. The fact that it's pretty much a straight-up analogue poly with a decent polyphony is it's main selling point. Take out the features, and it would become boring. Take out the voices, and you alienate your target market.

I reckon it's just because they have models of the old knobs in their render program but not the new ones.

I'm sure this has already been asked, but I'd still like to ask it.

Have any of you had the chance to compare the Prophet 08 with any of the original Sequential gear? For instance, I'd like to hear it compared with the Prophet T8 and P-600.
The greatest thing we ever have is the will to survive.

Rest in peace, Dr. Robert Moog.
