Obviously Oberheim. At least as far as Prince related funk was concerned. The Minimoog, Rhodes, Clavinet, Prophet 5,Yamaha CS-80, Arp Odyssey and Arp string ensemble had their place. Of course you can cover all those basic sounds pretty nicely with something like the Yamaha Motif. Unless you're addicted to vintage synths like I am

thanks for such an early reply max...youve got some lovely pieces
in your set up...envy...i know i need to get an oberheim..i think its
the only way i can satisfy my lust for that early prince/the time sound..
they use that lovely drone sound so well, but it has some vibrato in it as
well...i know im looking for the impossible..but a v cheap option
could it be classic keys or vintage keys by emu...

My father in law listens to a lot of funk and r&b particularly 70's - early 80's I hear a lot of Moog in those 70's tracks. Although prince sounds a lot different than 70's funk and R&B so if your going for prince I think you already have your answer.JSRockit wrote:Minimoog...no doubt.
