Minipops 7 sounds

Post by nordlead22 » Mon Oct 08, 2007 7:53 pm

What drum machine/module would best mimic the old analogue sounds of this machine as used by Jarre in his early music? Something modern(ish) with midi of course.

Cheers.

The sounds from the MP7 are quite easy to do from scratch with almost any synth.

Waldorf Attack. Or you can get the samples, I think they're freely downloadable somewhere if you google. Best Service have a CD of almost every drum machine ever made, it includes the minipops. But you will need a phaser!! The Electroharmonix Smallstone ideally. The Oxygene sounds are not straight Korg sounds. The guiro in particular is heavily phasered to make it more froggy.

Try this soundfont ;)

But remember 1 thing - Minipops has global noise generator. Each step it has diffrent value so samples are not so good idea if You're replica-sound maniac ;)

Oxygene rhytms were played thru EH Smallstone [color - switch down]

True, but nobody will hear any difference in a mix. ;)

I had the chance a while ago to buy a real Minipops 7. They are really rare in general but even more so here in Denmark. The guy wanted £400 wich is what you pay for a CR-78 in good condition normally (at least here). I thought it was way too much for a drummer without clock or trig in.

Yep, the vintage price rush rages on.

You know that there are several just languishing in dusty open boxes in the back of guitar stores, somewhere...
Give me the ANALOG and no one gets HURT
