I'm Confused!?!?!?!

I'm looking into buying an Akai AX-80 but I can't get definite answer as to if it uses VCO or DCO. Synthmuseum says it is VCO but other sites say DCO. Does anyone happen to know the real answer? Reason this is important is that I'm looking for a VCO synth and not another DCO.

The AX-80 has DCO's.
The AX-60 has VCO's.

I'm almost certain that it's DCO. But those DCO's sound fantastic. Really thick. I think it goes like this: AX-60 - VCO, AX-73 - DCO, AX-80 - DCO. Be careful about the AX-80. It uses membrane switches and at some point, they will break. That's what happened to mine.

its my understanding that the AX80 uses digitally-controlled analog oscillators, like the Juno-106. is that not right?

Ok, thanks everyone for clarifying. Haveing two sources tell you something completely differnt is extremely confusing.

I didn't know there was an AX-90... will have to look into it.

All I smashed in my musical life was a guitar, a Yamaha PSS, a MICKEY keyboard, friend's nose, and some minor stuff... And as far as AX-80 is mentioned... The last weeks I've spent thinking which youtube demo to do next: AX-80 or Maxikorg...

Yamaha DX-7 won

But still, these two are waiting for the shooting as the two nearest ones in future planning.

I coaxed some thick, low timbres outta mine! Can't speak for others. How much thicker can a digitally generated DCO get back then?

the ax90 never went beyond the prototypes. very silimar in design as the AX80.
