I can't comment on the tone of the 3P except from what I've heard by others that it is a bit more dry than the 8P. There is only one Envelope on the 3P compared to the 8P's two. The 3P cannot be edited in realtime via MIDI like the 8P...well it was Rolands first shot at MIDI. Also the 3P does not have velocity or aftertouch...but the 8P's afterouch can be pretty much non-existent on some.

Here are samples of the presets of the JX-3P from Synth Mania

Here are samples of the presets of the MKS-70 (which is twice a JX-8P) from Synth Mania

Also check out the reviews of both at Blue Synths. You have to register to get access to anything but it's no big deal.

What's wrong with the Matrix 1000? There are even presets on it that directly refer to "jump".

I looked onto bluesynths and found some good info. My only problem with the Matirx 1000 is that it is for one a rack, and you need computer software to program the synth. The Matrix 6r wouldn't bother me as much since it can be edited via the actual device. But anywho, thanks insky, OriginalJambo, and everyone for helping me thus far. I'm guessing the JX-8P may be my best option. Now to youtube for videos.! 8)

It's a pity you're not in Oz as there's a bloke down the road who has an 8P gathering dust. Got it from his grandma and doesn't have a clue what to do with it. "But it makes a cool drinks stand"

Nice little tid-bit there to frustrate you with. :)

I'm having to spend $500 to get my car runnning; priorities I suppose. I'm limited to a few hundred for next keyboard purchase if there is to be a purchase.
God... I almost don't want to tell you this, but I just recently sold an OBX-a on here for $800. :( I wish it was going to you, you want it more than anyone, and I respect that.

Box, there's a place by me that has a JX-3p with the PG-200 for like $250-$275. If you were interested in it, I could grab it and send it to you.

Thanks for the offer, but at the moment I don't have the cash. I greatly appreciate your willingness to help, and if I did have the cash I'd take you up on that offer in a heart beep. :)

Well, I've came to a conclusion. I think I'll go ahead and get a Roland JX-8P and just save up for an Oberheim OB-Xa. A long time for me to save money; worth it in the long run hopefully.

Ah well, I'm sure it'll do the job near enough. I'm sure it'll sound more like an Obie than bashing two small rabbits together.

Good luck in your quest!

I think you made the right choice.
