New FR Revolutions?

Post by Arddhu » Fri Nov 16, 2007 10:09 am

It struck me as odd that I haven't heard anything about this.
Looks like they inverted the colour scheme and whacked an extra $50 on top. I suppose the price may just reflect the US dollar slowly going down the poop-chute but I dunno about the new colour. Still looks pretty cool but I much preferred the old whitey.

Have I missed a thread on this or just not very exciting?

Wow, there's a full-blooded analog synth in there aswell!

I always thought it was just some fancy step sequencer from pics.

Yeah, I've been listening to way too much Aphex and now I'm being slowly drawn to gassing for this beastie.
There's a cool video on youtube of someone doing Boards of Canada covers with one. Bit of a departure from your usual AAAACIIIDD!!! sort of stuff.

I saw this a few days ago and was wondering what the situation was. Ive been thinkking about one for awhile, but I think if I get one it likely to be a white one, as it would come form europe, and be older stock.

The first run with the wood panels looked so cool.

Ive thought about getting one, but the DSP effects turn me off a bit they would be pointless to me and I think it cheapens the synth a bit.

Well you can bypass them completely they reckon. Also, the overdrive is analogue.

I'd take one if given but I don't know if I can justify ~$700 AUS for a cool bass-machine.

That is sweet beyond words. I always wondered whether or not these "acid" boxes would be of any use to someone like me who has zero interest in "funky 303 lines"...

Well there you go. I was also glad to hear something different coming from an acid machine.

Heh, same here. I don't like the white-on-grey version that much. I wish it was darker, or even black.

The new R2 unit, designated by the gun metal grey chassis, has an updated PC board design using a new RAM chip which extends the internal back up battery life from approximately 1.5 years on previous white faced units to now more than 10 years life span. In addition the R2 units include OS version 2.0 making it more compatible for use with our XS semi-modular synthesizer.

The blod got me kind of worried though.

I agree. :) I own one of the early units (S/N #50) with wooden cheeks.

The only thing I hate about it is the way they botched the internal RAM component and backup battery selection. It seems they have now fixed that problem.

I recently replaced my unit's battery with two of same capacity so I should be good for about 3 years. I should mark my calendar, though, to make backups before they run out again. I lost a lot of good patterns because I wasn't aware of this problem.

I wonder what OS changes were required for "...making it more compatible for use with our XS semi-modular synthesizer...." ?

Something to do with the CV out signals maybe?
