Moog Voyager who uses the CP

Post by amni » Thu Nov 22, 2007 11:20 am

I am buying a Voyager in a few weeks and it comes with the Freq box bundle that comes with the following,

CP251
VX351
MF107 Freq Box

Just wondering how many of you Voyager owners use the CP or VX?
Serge Modular, Synthi AKS, Andromeda A6, (Plan B,Livewire,CGS,Doepfer) Eurorack Modular, x0xb0x,TR606,Machinedrum,MS20

I use the CP251 and VX351. It opens up a whole new sonic pallette in the Voyager. I own all the Moogers except for the 107. I think the MuRF and Ring Mod really add a lot.

the cv expansions are great. I love them, but I don't use them all the time. I got the voyager primarily as a minimoog substitute, but the cv makes it much much more.

What is the most useful Mooger for the little phatty in terms of flexibility, fun, and added sonic ability?

I would say the MF102 ring modulator. You can get a nice a tremolo as well as the wild ring mod distortion and chimes. In addition you can utilize the LFO square/triangle CV out to modulate a the Phatty's CV in parameters.

My second choice is a toss up between the CP251 and the MuRF. The CP251 has the obvious number of possiblilties for CV in and outs. However, the MuRF has such a unique sound and ability. I think it works best with a synth. I love to use the long envelopes. In addition when not animated it can be used as a fixed filter bank for some cool EQ effects. Also with its two audio outs the MuRF stereo-izes your Phatty's mono signal.

W/O a doubt the CP-251, for in addition to the 2nd LFO and S&H/noise circuits it rates it's own writeup in the LP manual, and it's a good place to start :D I dont have the link, but go on the Moogmusic website where some kb whiz video demonstrates the CP-251 hooked into the LP. Nice. :D

I give another vote to that sweeeet analog delay unit. I know a geetarist that uses one and it is f**k killer!

I know I'm going off topic here. Would love the delay but damn its pricey and to be honest in the range I think I'd get an original space echo. Anyone know how the EH memory man compares to the moog?
