"Deck the Halls" classic synth version?

Post by Sir Ruff » Wed Nov 28, 2007 3:04 am

Does anyone know the tune I'm talking about? Totally over the top 80s synth lead sounds and pads. Almost more of a rocked out medley rather than a straight version of Deck the Halls.
It will undoubtedly be played at least 1000 times over the next month on the ubiquitous "holiday" stations, but I always seem to miss it.

It is tacky as h**l, but I'd love to at least know who does it.

Idk, but I listen to the Xmas station whenever I'm in the car (have Sirius and XM) I'll keep a lookout and write it down for you if it happens to pop up.

doh... I already figured it out:

Manheim Steamroller - Deck the halls

Now where's Micke to tell us what synths they used? For simplicity, I'm guessing some Obie brass and a mini for the lead.

it's such an awful song, but I guess that's why I love it. If anyone wants to see an atrocious light and song matchup check this out:

(there's a weird intro-ignore it)

IIRC they used a Prophet 5 back then.

Mannheim Steamroller is one of my favorite Christmas performers. Of course, because they use synths. ;)
Two VCO: thanks to the push rods, one can choose several forms of waves at the same time!

I was going to suggest maybe the Trans-Siberian Orchestra, but Manheim Steamroller makes sense. We used to play it in Jazz band...no synths though.
Stuff I own:
X Station
ESQ-1
JX-8P
Poly 800
MaxiKorg 800DV
Elka Rhapsody 610

yeah it's awful-it full characterizes to me the worst forms of xmas muzak. Unfortunately it's also so over the top with such classic synth sounds, I can't help but love it.
