microkorg or Notavation K Station

Post by mlawranceowen » Sun Dec 02, 2007 2:05 pm

I am new to synths and i have narrowed it down to these two please help. I would like one with a nice arpegiator. If notavation is their a different one you would recomend for under £240?

The K-Station has full sized keys, the microkorg's tiny ones suck.

This should go in the Buyer's Guide forum instead of Help!

For a beginner, the K-station is all knobs. When I was a noob I found the menu system of the microkorg very hard to deal with. Although, the microkorg has a few more features the K-station still has a few things it doesn't. I prefer the microkorg sound, but the K-station programmability.

They both have a really unique sound. I can always pick them out in a mix. Both of em.
so what do I put down here now?

Yeah it's pretty good, like Tyler said they each sound quite different, you should choose the one you like the sound of better. Buying synths based on features is stupid, the sound is more important.

That partly depends on what type of music you want to play I guess. There are some good demos on youtube of both the k station and the microkorg. There are also lots of bad demos of the microkorg, usually kids messing with presets.

I own a microkorg and the k-station's bigger cousin, the nova. There's the "korg sound" and the "novation sound".... the microkorg is great for bass and bleepy bloopy stuff and its OK for leads too. I've never used a k-station, only the nova which is somewhat different again.

Once you get into the microkorg's edit matrix you'll soon be motoring with it, it isn't as bad as some people make it out to be.

For the price, either synth would be a worthwhile investment. If I were starting from scratch today, umm, I'd probably go for the K-station.

This is one of those times when listening to them works a lot better than reading people's opinions on the internet. Go listen to a few demos.

imho, the K-station is a better newbie synth. It also has a better bread and butter synth soundset with it's 3 oscs engine. both sounds good, but as a first synth, I'd be very happy with the sounds of the K.

have you tried this place? - www.google.com

tons of info there, but you have to read it for yourself.

If you are going to go searching for info or Youtube vids you might want to spell Novation properly. Searches are much more productive when you spell the search terms correctly.

Microkorg is better for basses and leads.
Novation for pads and ambient sounds and also for "organ like sounds".

I had both and at the end i sticked with the Novation, but its all about what sound do you like and prefer.

Microkorg is more "electrical"
Novation is more "dreamy"
