Roland D50 patches -Voice Crystal + Official Roland releases

Hi all

Just picked up a lovely D50 for £215. I cleaned it up and its costmetically pretty mint. Just about to get it fully serviced - getting all the button tac switches replaced with new ones. I didnt realise they were still produced!

The D50 fulfills all my expectations - warm digital, 80's and film soundtrack tones. But I need some help please....

Official Roland D50 RAM cards PN-D50-01, PN-D50-02, PN-D50-03 and PN-D50-04. Does anyone have patch dumps for the 4 official Roland Ram cards? http://www.synthmania.com/d-50.htm & http://www.synthmania.com/pn-d50-series.htm . These cards have been brilliantly demoed on the synthmania.com website......and i really would like this patches. Finding these on ebay and the 2nd hand market is proving to be frustrating and i am reluctant to buy the 25000+ patch Cd's you see floating around. I just need a core of decent sounds, recognisably 80's preferably. Can anyone do a patch dump of these cards for me? I would be so incredibly greatul.

Voice Crystal cards - http://www.voicecrystal.com/sndcards.htm Are there any users in here who have used these? Is this where some of the famous D50 sounds reside? They are expensive......and I need some opinions before dropping the cash.

Hi - I can email them to you - they are on the net, IIRC they are in a big zip file with 1000's of D-50 patches, don't have the link right now. Nice synth - really enjoyed mine.

Ok i just googled .Z files and have discovered that they are compressed files. My next question then is whats the best program to use to uncompress these files? I take it that they will then convert into sysex files which i can load up into a D50 editor or Cubase 4?

Sorry for the noobi questions....but myself and perhaps others might find these links and info very useful.

ALso look for an editor called SysexD50, it's an amazing tool that let you send and receive whole soundbanks with a couple of clicks on the synth and PC. Plus you can edit every single parameter in the synth with nice windows and sliders and graphic envelopes.

The D-50 is one of those few synths that have great factory presets, and you really haven't played it until you've at least tried the presets on all the cards.

Hey DS - glad to be of assistance

For some reason SysexD50 was not running properly on my computer - I used a program called D50-Ldr.exe to load and save files to the D50. It works fine but does not have any of the editing features which SysexD50 has.

There are lots of good programs in the Roland soundbanks, also a bunch that aren't so good.... but many great programs in the other free soundbanks.... in general, a lot better than what is out there for the ESQ-1 (which I also like)... and way better than what is out there for the DX-21.

I have a soundbank called Revolutions. It is all the sounds Jarre used on that album in order of appearance on the album. Great great fun to play along with Industrial revolutions, specially that superfat lead.
Play the live version from the 1989 live album, close your eyes and it feels like the audience is cheering at you when you start the lead part.

And that funny Computer Weekend wooden lead sound. Or the gorgeous strings he used all over the album. Its all there.
