Jomox 888...

Post by rivas3 » Fri Dec 14, 2007 8:16 pm

so i was just browsing around the internet and decided to check out the jomox website. while there i came across a drum machine called the 888. i havent heard anything about this anywhere....
i quickly read through the specs and it looks to be pretty close to the 999 but without the Analog step sequencer with X-filter.
anyone else hear of this, or have any info?

Available in 2008!

I guess people were telling Jurgen they didn't use the X-Filter
...or perhaps he's worried because he'll have some pretty serious competition in the form of the Boomchik.
The description does seem to say it has the same sequencer - the wording is the same as for the 999

I guess he didn't get my email about making a monophonic sunsyn.

Wow, nice find. First I've heard about it. So, is this a cheaper machine than the 999? If not, I don't see why they would make this machine... it seems too close to other machines they have made.

a reason to head over to AH this weekend...

my gripe with the xbase 09 is lack of TOM's...

yes you can detune the snares on the Xbase 09 to get Tom tones but this has toms on it....YES....I like drum melodies to be from the toms..

I was really amazed at how actually musically useful (i.e., not 80s) the toms on the Airbase are. One thing that machine has done for me was to get me using toms and cymbals a lot more (and now that I have the UW, anything goes).

So if the 888 is listed at 1100 euros...that's going to put it in the same price bracket as the BC (based on speculation and hearsay). It's a pity he can't make the 999 cheaper, I think the filter is one of the nicest features of it. It would have been particularly cool if he'd basically put an M-Res in there, but the way it's setup is very nice anyway.

thanks, it was one of those moments where i was thinking, "wait, this has to already been discussed un VSE..." so i made sure to check for it first, but didnt see anything.

it does seem like its just the same exact wording as the 999, minus the xfilter. i guess when i wasnt ever very interested in the filter being built into the drum machine, with that being said i have not ever used a 999, so thats only based on what i know.

what do you guys think about the colors, i thought it to be "devilish" not a bad way to describe a drum machine, especially if you want one to rip!

i also agree that it seems to be to "close" to the 999. but i guess thats why i always thought, "why put a filter in there?" still, it seems like there would be something different about it, not just a stripped down 999. id say adding as much sampleability to it seems like the way to go. but reading the 999 page it says you can have "155 samples in total" that sure does seem like plenty on paper.

No, I meant why link to the 999 in a post about 888?

Am I the only person who wishes that Jomox hadn't given up the white/orange scheme?

I dunno, black looks generically bad a*s. And the combination of black and orange just makes me think Halloween. If I could find someone to swap me their blue M-Res for my black one, I'd be quite happy.
