Shipping heaaaavy stuff (abroad, electric pianos)

I was just wondering, has any one of you, fellow europeans (or somewhere else) bought a fender rhodes for example from ebay (U.S.) and had it shipped to your country?

How much did it cost, which service did you use and how did you have it packed (crate or cardboardbox?)

I'm thinking about picking up a hohner clavinet d6 for christmas :o
Is it living h**l to ship those things?

(For instance, there's this Icelandic importing service based in the US that imports anything from CD's to automobiles.. But they charge pretty much for everything (they handle taxes+tolls too) is it wiser to use that?)
