It's a slow old day, wife's at work so I tuned into TOTP2 on Dave and they've just had hue and cry from 1986 and shots of of the keyboard player showed that he was tinkling the ivories of an Akai AX-73

But as we all know, mostly 95% of the times, the synths aren't plugged in and are just there to look cool.
Like the 3 CS-80's on another TOTP 80's video, where the song was actually recorded with a ARP Odyssey. Add a couple of hot chicks "playing" them and you got a winner.

And the story grows legs... no "chicks" in that John Foxx video...
Sometimes the spectacle is as important as the music... it all adds up to a mood/ atmosphere/ emotion.
