ok, so im having 2nd thoughts on my mac purchase because mac wont run sounddiver. (see related rant at the bottom of this message for more). im thinking about getting a new pc for music and running xp home on it with sounddiver and the last pc version of logic instead. as far as i can tell, i should still be able to use a ton of cool softsynths and effects on a pc running this "obsolete" software.

does anyone have any thoughts on this matter? and which computer should i get if i want to do this? any other tips / warnings about selecting a PC for music and problems integrating it into a studio full of old and new hardware midi synths?

thanks
mini

RELATED RANT (see other thread in general if you want to reply to whats below)

some of you might have noticed or even contributed to my "which new Mac should I buy?" thread.

well, ive been using sounddiver software to edit patches in many of my MIDI synths. so the fact that the new macs wont run sounddiver very seriously annoys me. it was suggested that i keep my old mac around simply to run sounddiver, but this doesnt seem like a practical solution. so now im thinking "F*CK APPLE!!!!!". i can just get a new music PC instead and install the last version of sounddiver for PC. and if i decide to keep on using logic, i can use the last logic thats available for PC as well. this may or may not happen, but i thought id vent here about how much apple sucks for dropping sounddiver and thought id point out, if it isnt clear enough to all of you, how apple's all in 1 logic studio is just another effort to make more money forcing people into buying disposable technology to make the old stuff youve got tons of money invested in obsolete and unusable. shame on them. shame on all computer manufacturers for behaving this way.

but thank you roland for putting out the mpu-101 so people could continue using cv gear when midi tried to make it obsolete.

who else here is fed up with computers? please see and contribe to my related threads in the buying guide categories.
