Just got my Ax60! *EDIT* now with pix

Post by 9mm » Wed Jan 23, 2008 4:16 am

My Ax60 from Music Go Round just came in tonight! its in great shape, just missing one slider cap (any one know where to replace them?) and one tiny little chip off the bottom of one of the lower keys. completely usuable though. other than that it has pretty minor wear and tear and all voices seem to sound, and all the LEDs work.

spent about an hour and a half just going through the banks and toying with the parameters. this things awesome.

now i need some old akai samplers...

pretty clean. you can see the missing slider cap in top left, and the chipped key on bottom left.

so, which old Akai sampler we are talking about? :) talking about the looks, I really like the MPC60 looks best, specially paired with Roger Linn signature and 12 bit sounds..and sure, the AX will make a very cool Axes together 8)

Welcome to the AX60 brotherhood! I have spent endless hours with mine, pushing sliders this way and that way to make it do strange and wondrous things. I always imagine the AX60 coming the mid-80s polysynth party in a torn t-shirt and leather jacket... Sid Vicious next to the Junos and DXes...

thinking the old s612 or s950 for 12 bit sampling, and the s1000 for higher fidelity. And i got a keyboard stand that has a rack attachment to it for ease of use. didnt know the mpc60 could be hooked up to it.

Don't think that's absolutely necessary. Now if it were a Moog Modular... :P

Congrats on the AX; something about me has always wanted one, not really sure why. Maybe one of these days I'll find one cheap and buy it. :)

congrats! ax60 is awesome, I just got a s612 to hook up to mine, it is awesome! definitely look for one of those old akai samplers.. I think that that weird 13 pin din jack is actually just an audio in (correct me if I'm wrong), I know that on ebay they sell 13 pin cables with a 1/4" plug on one side, so you could essentially run anything you want through it

I made the mistake of selling mine. But I found another one and it still finds its way into my tracks.....always with complete gratification.

Sold mine a while back, as I couldn't really find a way to place it into my music, but I have to admit it was a joy to play, really high-quality construction and feel, and just a handsome unit to have in a setup. Miss it. Don't make the same mistake I did.

More of the same, since you deserve a swelled head for getting an AX-60. My first synth, learned how to program it. I knew I would regret selling it when I did but I hated having it sit around and only get fired up once every few months.

Don't make the mistake we did. Hold her, cherish her, tell her you love her once in a while and offer to sleep in the wet spot. She will reward you with unexpected biting gnarly sounds for years to come.

PS - you did see this on Harmony Central?

the link to the manual? yeah, mine came with a print out of that manual.

thanks for all the kind words. i have little doubt i will ever want to get rid of it in any foreseeable future (bills and tax collectors willing). after just a few days im in love with this thing. and being it's my first REAL analog, i dont think nostalgia would let me part with it, even when im old gray deaf and blind.

and a question. is the tape out the only way to save presets on it? i take it it doesnt respond to sysex and something like midi ox is out right?
