no problem!
here's a couple short demos i did right now. these are a cheap Audio Technica dynamic mic straight into the WarpFactory and then out to Tracktion. i wasn't using my pop filter, so forgive the microphone molestation going on, but it should give you some idea of the effect...
demo 1 (i'm using a unisoned saw wave on this)
demo 2 (this is a "JP Strings" patch from my QS6)

The Electrix sounds as if it would work for me.

And I believed you! Anyone who owns and treasures the king of vocoders like you do probably is a person whose perspective should be considered.minime123 wrote:told ya so
I'm still not certain I'm going to pursue the Electrix for sure... we'll see how things go. There is a lot of functionality I wouldn't use on it because I seek a specifically vintage sound.
But, we'll see what happens! I'll keep everyone updated. I'm sure you're on the edge of your seats!

What would you consider the king? Moog/Bode?

God, I suppose I have to take your word on THAT, too.minime123 wrote:yup.
Do you have a Moog vocoder sitting around somewheres? If so, I'm coming over for a comparative demonstration.

Contrary to all of the fine opinions here, I ended up winning a Paia.
It came on Friday. I plugged the MG-1 into it and fiddled with it a bit.
It is noisy. It is a little loose and unpredictable. It sounds primitive. It doesn't have barely any functionality. It's a bit hokey. It's not nearly as effectively vocodery as my SVC-350 was.
And... I frickin' love it! I have no doubt that the Electrix product would have given me far more functionality, would have a greater resale value, and would be a much more solid device... but that perverse side of me which loves limited hokey buzzy primitive technology just loves this silly little thing.
It will be perfect for those relatively rare moments when I've just got to have a vocoder on a track.
Thank you VERY much for everyone's great information, though. Despite enjoying the Paia, I can plainly see that the Electrix is the superior choice, and if anyone asked me (who wasn't a total freak like me), I would probably encourage them to go for the Electrixx.
Sadly, Electrix prices seem to be rising!
