With luck you could get a used Dave Smith Mono Evolver Keyboard for roughly about a grand(give or take). ext in, various filters, modulation and effects built in.

The Evolver doesn't have the best sounding filters IMO, but it has the best modulation by a long shot. It's also got the delays, one of which goes through the filter. Check out the specs on DSI's website.

I'd also look at the V-Synth and V-Synth XT, they're both great for processing sounds and seriously undervalued on the second hand market at the moment.

Alesis Ion(VA) does a fair job of external audio processing. 17+ filters & many effects to choose from like phaser, chorus, overdrive etc...

actually that a nice Idea which I didn't think about.
All the Ion's v-station etc are VA my main purpose here is to bring some analog to my studio I'm also less interested in effects such as delay, chorus etc but more in modulation.
THANKS for the help other suggestions?

Other suggestion which might not be as flexible as the above but do sounds sweet and way cheaper is the Novation Super Bass Station. It also has a selectable 12dB/24dB Lowpass VCF, stereo outs with panning and an analog distortion. I also like the filter of the Pulse+ which sounds more powerful than the SBS but not as sweet sounding.

ok, not analog
but the kurzweil k2000 rack sampler?
it's probably got the most advanced sample mangling in the world..
you could get a maxed out one and sample the whole thing you want to record and mangle it in the kurzweil

wait, wait, wait, doesn't it have realtime mangling of the inputs?!?

think I read that somewhere..

O.k...I took the advice of making a combo but slightly different
I bought my self a waldorf pulse(no ext in) and the 4-pole analog filter.
never heard them but its waldorf and its German and I have the XT
so I'm very excited :D

it's cool indeed. The pair of the XT and the Pulse is also one of my favorite duo. I own the Pulse+ which essentially where the 4-pole came from. Those sounds great and would works very well together. how do you like it so far?
