closest thing to a rackmount cz synth?
I really miss my CZ-101, but I don't need more keyboards. I have plenty so now when I get synths I've been trying to find rack versions. So are there rack synths with phase-distorion synthesis?
so what do I put down here now?

Just tape your CZ-101 to the side of the rack.
Seriously, there never was a rackmount CZ, and the VZ series is NOT the same!!! While some claim the VZ engine is powerful and good-sounding, I've never liked programming it as much, and it is undeniably impossible to recreate favorite CZ sounds with the VZ.
I was unimpressed by ReFX's implementation of some of the "Advanced" features of the CZ, such as resonance.
I think I saw a mod once where someone stuck a CZ into a rackmount. If you're handy with plastic and metal this may be an option.
Vince Clarke just used a literal stack of CZ-101s

I'm glad you folks tore down the VZ. I was considering it.
As for rackmounting one...I've opened one up before and I would need to fold the board, which i am not willing to mess with. Oh well.
I def. don't want FM. PM just sounds so sweet. Oh and about the VST, I don't really roll that way....

while clearly not a PD synth or a CZ replacement, but the Nord Modular Rack can be rackmounted and would do some reasonable emulation. It has some CZ like sounds that I like. Plus it got many knobs.
