the desktop evolver

so i got a midi controller keyboard and i can use it on the desktop evolver;
my question is this: what would be the advantage of getting a MEK if one can get a midi keyboard for $ 200 and the DEVO for $500, then for $700 one has a complete system.... cheaper than the MEK, so except for the fact that the MEK is a very good looking board with wood ends, blue lights, etc... why don't everybody just get a midi keyboard+ DEVO ???
