Back in the day, these things were made from a Pignose amp and some vinyl tubing from the hardware store. I never heard of any warnings having to do with them. I suppose if you turned it up waaaaay too loud, you could damage your lungs, but I suspect that would be a lot louder than most amps can get.

well, just looking at the Banshee Talk Box on the MF site finds this:

"Banshee is unique because it contains its own internal preamp, amplifier, and horn driver. You simply plug into your pedalboard and run the provided tubing up the mic stand and into your mouth. There's no risk of blowing up your favorite amp head (a possibility with talk boxes of yore)."

apparently they can also make your teeth rattle a little, but i don't know if that would cause any permanent damage.

The Banshee is a great all-in-one talk box solution. I've had some good results with it and a Micromoog. The tube is perhaps a tad too thick though (easily replaced).

+1 for the Rocktron Banshee. With it you don't even need an amp as it has its own pre.

As for stories I've heard it can rattle your teeth and damage your hearing. Also I've heard talkboxes can blow guitar amps if you are using them externally and are not careful.

i own a Banshee, the best one after looking at the specs of everything. talkboxes are really awkward and somewhat unpleasant to use, but the results sound cool!
