Prophet VS vs. Solaris?

Post by sensorium » Sun Mar 02, 2008 6:01 pm

I've been in the market for a VS for a while now. Now that the Solaris is coming out, is there any point in getting a VS? Will the Solaris do everything a VS will?? minus the analog filters of course :(

The Solaris will do a LOT more than the VS.

But if it's that true vintage character you're really looking for, then you might just have to buy the VS and be done with it.

I recently was craving a PPG Wave, and that classic sound. I decided to find and try a Waldorf Microwave XT, and couldn't be happier. But that could have went either way. the bad thing for you is that the Solaris isn't cheap enough to buy and try to see if it fits your needs, but the good thing is... it's such a crazy synth, I don't think it's possible for you to not love it.

isn't the Solaris a purely digital synth? it sounds like a totally different type of synthesizer. if you want VS sound, the VS will be your best bet.

The Solaris will get pretty close to the VS sound I think...It has the VS waveforms, vector envelopes and CEM filter (emulation).

It may be digital but I played and demoed the Solaris for people for three days straight at NAMM and was actually surprised at how "analog" it could sound.
Best Regards, James
